redbridge bc say that people who smoke will not be able to foster childern which in a way is a disgrace. gaunty said that he was raised by smokers and he turned out fine. all kids need is love and why should you ban people who can provide love for that child, would the council prefer to keep the kids in the orphange.

gaunty told this mp that he was a health nazi and an ignorant pig. now even people that dont like the man should really agree with him. these kids need homes and the council dont seem to be doing enough

    Are you quite mad?

There are lots of people who would love to foster children but aren't suitable.

picture this a loving couple nice house and two of the most nicest people youve met and are very suitable to foster. wpuld you deny this couple the chance to foster a child just because they smoke. its a form of racism against smokers

What sort of loving couple would not want to give up smoking so that they could foster the child? What's more important?

    What makes a smoker unsuitable?

I'm a smoker, but I don't smoke in the house, or in anyone else's house, or in any building or vehicle or anywhere but outside. I'm pretty sure I wouldn't be giving the foster kids cigarettes or blowing smoke in their faces, so what would make me unsuitable? Actually, I'd be crap at it, but not because I smoke.

what does it matter if a person smokes. my great grandad smoked like a chimney, my grandad my dad me and my younger brother do not smoke. point being just because a person smokes does not mean others will

I'm not going to start arguing about health and smoking - it's a no brainer. What about addressing my question? Surely if a couple really wanted to foster children they wouldn't mind giving up fags so they could.

    Not really

Regardless of the issue, he's a presenter on a talk/debate show - if he can't debate without resort to such terms of abuse then he has no right holding the position he does.

    Gaunty's a lovely person

And so are you for believing him.

Your grandad smoked and look what a lovely person you turned out to be.

Jay smokes and imagine the sort of cnutish runt he'd father.

Smokers are like the cancers they foster, bad for society. They shouldn't be allowed to breed ne'er mind foster.

I think on this issue then the ruling has to come down somewhere in the middle

A foster parent is paid to foster children so their home and car should come under the same rules as any other 'workplace' and they should not be allowed to smoke in them for the children's sake. What they do in the open air is (within reason) upto themselves and shouldn't affect whether or not they can raise children.
