Always thought he showed promise - centre half or centre forward. Scored at Sheff United aswell. Should he have been allowed to leave?
Parkin been allowed to go just sums up the club. A kid who's big and strong, can score goals and play in 2 positions equally well booted out. Its not all bad though, not all our talent went, we kept stars like Nicky Wroe didn't we!! No wonder were in the position we are
RE: Dunt stop him being a good player cos he likes a pint, plenty others do George Best didn't do too bad!
And Steve Parkin took the easy option.. Someone must have sorted the lad out. Sadly for us, ity was never going to be the "fitter at home than we are away" man
RE: Dunt stop him being a good player cos he likes a pint, plenty others do yes being late for training and not giving a **** dont make you a good footballer does it his head was not right to stay at bfc
This is all from memory, but I think it is accurate. We sent him up to Hartlepool on loan. He failed to turn up from a game and was sent back to Oakwell with a flea in his ear. He was given a warning by Steve Parkin who was trying to sort out a so called "drinking culture" at the club. Some weeks after, Jon Parkin was caught drink driving. I'm afraid he had to go. He went up to York and the shock obviously sorted him out because the improvement in his attitude began them. Nevertheless, the manager probably had no alternative.
On his behalf I say this as he lines up in the Championship ....... "He who laughs last laughs longest" .... good look Johnny boy, our loss, their gain
