Just reading this has fallen through, because they have failed to agree personal terms. Interesting one innit. Blackburn clearly want the deal done, so i'm guessing they're a bit pi$$ed off that it's £9m down the pan. Middlesbrough with Rhodes would probably be absolute certainties for promotion, while Blackburn have zero chance. Assuming Boro are not offering peanuts, why on earth would Jordan Rhodes be unable to agree terms and would prefer to stay with Blackburn, rather than move to promotion chasing side and have a very good chance of playing in the PL next year?? Weird..
It sounds like the agent mucked it up. Just like solicitors like to destroy the most amicable divorces. Allegedly.
Allegedly he's already on £60k, so I reckon there could be some truth in that. Sent from my I-Microwave using the internets
Apparently it's because the deal was 4 1/2 year deal that had promotion clauses and loads of other performance related clauses that would have taken the deal to over £30 Million over the 4 1/2 years. Boro rightly couldn't agree to it.
Boro pulled out, not Rhodes. He agreed personal terms and they must of got cold feet last minute. They might want to save the cash and use it in the Prem next year if they're confident of going up without Jordan. Also I know we were only 16 and this probably counts for nothing but Jordan was/is a very quiet, polite lad whilst we were in the academy and at school. He was well spoken, intelligent and just a nice person. He was a very good finisher as he has always been but I am 90% sure that unless he's had a total character transformation, him asking for 90k is total ********. He isn't on 60k at Blackburn either, more somewhere around the 40k mark. From the sky sports website : "Jordan Rhodes' move from Blackburn Rovers to Middlesbrough has fallen through. Rhodes has told Sky Sports News HQ he is "baffled and disappointed" by Middlesbrough's decision to withdraw from the deal. The forward said he had passed a medical and agreed personal terms on a switch to the Riverside Stadium on Saturday, but was informed on Sunday morning that Middlesbrough had cancelled the move. "
40k a week for a forward who's never played top flight football? Absolute madness. Whatever his agent was trying to get for him at boro, I'm pleased they are sensible enough to not do it. The world has gone barmy. £2million a year for a division 2 striker, and he wanted more.
He agreed personal terms mate, they pulled out. He's just said himself on sky sports. He was on his way until they called it off. I bet he would of been on the same money just a better chance of Premiership football.
I'm not for a minute saying he's a poor sod i'm just saying I used to know him before he moved and I very, very, very much doubt he was asking for as much money as is being spoken about. He wanted to stay at Barnsley before he HAD to go to Ipswich with his dad and they were offering him more obviously.
Ive always found it baffling a side like Everton or Villa havent took a chance on him. I think he's the kind of player who'll be able to find the net whatever level he's playing at. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I said to myself when Villa bought Gestede that they had bought the wrong one. He only had one good season.
I don't think he'd score many in the Premier League. No pace, not great in the air. Better defenders.
This sort of money a silly amount for a championship player. I'm not convinced he'd cut it in the premier league and they could definitely get better for less. Thankfully for Boro common sense prevailed!
No doubt an agent is pulling the strings on this one, agents are a cancer on our once beautiful game.
I take it you've never been to Middlesbrough then! The only good things in Middlesbrough are the Rhodes out of it....
