http://www.barnsleyfc.co.uk/page/NewsDetail/0,,10309~1751832,00.html Thank god we didn't let this one get away and installed a sell-on-clause (Y). Scored 3 in 2 now for Huddersfield, seems a very good prospect. How much did Huddersfield pay for him? I heard around the 500k mark? (dunno)
fantastic work!! That should pay for the acadamy for a while. Hopefully unerth a little gem. Fingers crossed Potter, Butterfield, Adam, RNL keep improving and pushing for first team spots. But a lot of fans think we should close the academy down..... genius
Wouldn't we have been better of keeping him then? How can we have received a "substantial amount"? If Huddersfield paid £500k for him than at most we'll probably be getting £50k (10%)
I wonder how much we would have to generate in terms of transfer fees to break even on the money spent so far on the academy? I dread to think
The point is that you only need one to cover it and it's not all about what comes in. For example, this season having Potter and Butterfield coming through to the first team has potentially saved on 2 first teamer wages so (complete guess) 200k. Agreed that it's not been run very well in the past but, fingers crossed, it looks like we might have a good batch on our hands.
Was the best player by a country mile in our academy up until he left for Ipswich, great touch and a eye for goal. Shame we couldnt keep him but his dad got a job at Ipswich so he went with him.
I think there will be significant add-ons, though .... Scored a hat-trick on loan at Brentford last season and has looked a really good prospect. On the other hand, Roy Keane does seem to be 'giving away' some talent at the moment - Danny Haynes (ok! Sent off last night, but good); Sumulokovski; possibly Quinn? I think Keano really wants the funds to bring in most of his Sunderland cronies, so is having the sort of clear-out only Tommy Docherty used to do, including some genuine talent. Worth a bit of window-shopping at Portman Road at the moment - there is a sale on!
