Walsall striker. According to the Daily Mail (sorry) we've 'checked in on him'. Presumably we've made sure he's keeping well in these difficult times. Its a strange turn of phrase. Which makes me think we're not interested, but the daily mail has pages to fill, and one way of doing is to fabricate nonsense. https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/f...k-250k-rated-Walsall-striker-Josh-Gordon.html
Seen him a few times, hes high energy so fits the mold. Bit rough around the edges and he's got a brain, seems a switched on young man.
Can't see us signing anybody over 23, unless they're of a very good standard. It's almost like agents/journalists haven't followed our transfer activity for the last 3/4 years..
Josh, Josh, I love you, but we only have fourteen hours to save the season! Easy song pickings for supporters of a certain age.
You say that, but I can think of 4 players signed under the current owners who were over 23. 3 of them in the last 2 windows. The club say they're trying to learn from their mistakes, and surely they acknowledge the naive recruitment strategy is one example.
I can’t think who the fourth was, but the three Austrians were signings requested by the Head Coach. I’m not saying that I don’t think we’ll sign players over the age of 23. I just don’t think somebody who is nearly 26, and has only played a couple of seasons at League One/Two level is what we’ll break the mould for. Another Austrian maybe..
Unless I have missed someone our last Josh was Scowen and last Gordon was Owen and we did well with both so why not combine the names with a signing.
Dougall is the other I was thinking of. To be fair, I can't see that we're interested in this lad either (unless the spreadsheet has picked him out), however I do think we'll see more of a mix of players coming into the club going forward. I've always been a fan of signing players, around the age of 22-25, who have come off the back of a couple of good seasons in leagues 1, 2 and the SPL. Similar to when we picked up the crop of players we did in 2015-2017. The wage cap in leagues 1&2 will help us in that respect as well.
Whilst it doesn't really make us more competitive at this level, it certainly makes our traditionally low wage budget, more desirable.
