No comparison really Joy Division were sublime, depressing, under the counter. Cant imagine many chart type punters listening to Closer!
New Order have been more pop oriented & mainstream.
Both guises have done some good stuff though.

agree , both totally amazing for different reasons... life or death decision tho ... joy division by a whisker
Joy Division and New Order up to about 1984 were sublime. After 'Low Life' NO went off the boil a bit, and started to show weaknesses I think. But certainly 'Closer', 'Unknown Pleasures' and 'Power, Corruption and Lies' are wonderful, wonderful albums.
Life or death decision - New Order... Otherwise they're both fantastic bands but too different to compare...
Tough one Saw New Order in Barca this year, they were awesome (if looking a little old) but the greatest reaction came when they played Love Will Tear Us Apart !!!
The one that's really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really sh*t. So could be either of them. It's a toss up.
both great bands! ian curtis edges the vocals over barney, but new order for me, for pushing the boundries at the very beginning of electronic music! saying that joy division - digital is one over my all time favourites!
Very Beginnings of Electronic Music?? Pink Floyd, Brian Eno, Kraftwerk etc... were all using synthesisers almost 10 years before New Order came along.
Rarely listen to either voluntarily but I reckon Joy Division were more of their time, more original and more iconic.
I agree... My point was also about even those, like me, who (marginally) prefer New Order pick faves that were originally Joy Division numbers...
