Was there one? Did I miss it? No easy task reconciling that performance with our other ones just before or since .
The BBS has become a difficult place to post the alternative opinion. Currently, all fans are expected to toe the party line, and this was particularly true of the reporting of our victory at Wembley. I did go to the game, and as usual, I hold a view of that day that did not concur with the majority view. There were a few who dared to step out of the crowd in their reporting of the game and I did not particularly want to be treated in the same way as they were, so I kept my own council. To be honest, I am not getting the sort of reaction that I wanted to my brand of well argued, well referenced and detailed postings. In consequence, I have decided to reduce even further the number of postings that I make for a while, and mostly restrict them to replies to a select few threads begun by posters who have shown an interest in the way that I post. This board has been infected by promotion fever, and it is all the poorer for it.
As opposed to negative relegation crap from the beginning of the season. Suppose the team need to apologise for winning. Cheer up pal. Might never happen
The two replies to this thread above are a good example of what I mean. There is a tendency to avoid discussion of any issues raised in a posting and concentrate on personal abuse. It is, of course, very much easier to simply and thoughtlessly react to a point raised by another poster by abusing him. In other threads, this results is an exchange of insults with a winner being declared after a short, but intense exchange of increasing vehemence. I have absolutely no intention of reacting to anything other that well intentioned and well argued debate. The problem with the BBS is that I get that less and less frequently.
Without standing on anybodys toes you have a valid point...far too many have a gut reaction and let fly with abuse....suppose verbal attacks/abuse have become the norm on here sad to say, thats if you differ from the general tact....however this can be at times placed on the shoulders of those younger than yourself who in their defence possibly dont have the experience not that it excuses that type of behavior, ie personal abuse. We all at times see the game differently, but yet all have opinions that differ from each other, i know from my point of view, whilst i read your posts , i dont always agree with your summing up of the said game, nor do i reply most of the time, .but like many i respect the fact youve taken time to post your thoughts on the game and give a well constructed account on the way you see it. Yes i agree that abuse is not a counter arguement to any debate and those that offer up that line of attack/ defence. loose out in more ways than one and unfortunately not only deter others from posting but become detrimental to the site/ boards long term future.
I wasn't being abusive. Tongue in cheek aye. But for for too long thus bbs has been a sad and abusive place because of the tripe we have been served up for years. We're doing well. Enjoy it. We are not perfect and I originally enjoyed reading your posts. It made me think 'outside of the box'. However We aren't perfect. Things will be done that is less than perfect. It's why we are in league one. We have been on a decent run. Won a trophy for the first time in over a hundred years. Enjoy it. And one thing I don't do and never has is agree with a majority or tow a party line.
It is "toe the line" and not "tow the line". See https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toe_the_line I am a big boy and am perfectly able to defend myself. That is not the issue here. The issue is whether it is right that a public forum is dominated by a group that are not prepared to tolerate any thought process that does not accord with their own. Such intolerance is bad for society in general and it is bad for this forum in particular. If you do not agree with my views, you can challenge them and engage in reasoned debate with me, or you can simply ignore me. This hounding of people on this forum, just because they have alternative views is an attempt to restrict their freedom of speech. I do not myself claim to have been hounded because, as I say, I am perfectly able to defend myself, but I have noticed that a number of people no longer post on here, and there has been a reduction in the diversity of opinion that this forum represents, as a result. It makes the forum a poorer place to visit if you are looking for debate and opinion. People can only get out of something what they are prepared to put in, and what a number of people are putting in is just not acceptable at the minute.
Not being funny or owt but I think the reaction you personally get is something to do with your attitude of 'my well written utterly ******* amazing perfect posts get ignored' and 'from my perfect viewpoint which is better than yours' and 'I watch more and know more about football than you lot' which you have written or heavily suggested in the past.
I know that you rarely agree with the posts that I make, but I respect your opinion because it is usually well thought out and well argued. My point is not that I personally feel unloved and unwanted on this forum. It is not a personal one with myself at the centre of it. It is whether the board itself is a good place for reasoned debate and as a result, is diversity being driven out. OK, my posting style may upset others. I have to accept your point that sometimes I do push the elitism a bit, and the grammar correction was an intentional wind up. Nevertheless, what you must decide is this. If you concentrate on what I say, rather than the way in which I say it, do I have a point? That is all that I ask of you. If my style annoys you, ignore that and concentrate on the content. If you cannot do that, just ignore me.
Don't take this the wrong way but I hardly read your longer posts because long posts like that bore me (for the same reason that I hardly listen to Whiteys podcasts or read many blogs). I like your general posts though and often agree with what you say (even if I'm not replying to you to say so). But yeah the longer minority report type posts I hardly read and the only things I really remember about them are the elitist comments mainly because they are the parts that people react to so I see them. You should do a little summary or shorter version of your report for those of us with shorter attention spans, you'd probably get more response. I bet I'm not the only one who gets put off by the length.
You mean TOE a party line. I'm completely with Red Rain, this board has become a bit abusive over recent times, I won't read any such posts and really stick to ones with reasonably argued debates. I also like to pick up on bad English and spelling but then I'm a bit of a pedant in that respect. English is a wonderful language and has suffered grievously at the hands of the Internet and Text messaging so I like to stand up for it. As for the football, I'm enjoying it at the moment and hope for better things to come, another trip to Wembley would be fantastic.
I'll just leave this here. Try posting from a phone with autocorrect and 'e' and 'w' being side by side of each other. Easy mistake to make. I can't be arsed with ya pal. Such is life. Have a good day.
I complete agree , it's a shame to see our own language being dumbed down to text speak and disappearing beneath a tsunami of foreign expressions , but que sera sera.
Just a tip here; if you're correcting someone else's grammatical errors, probably best to have your own house in order first. One does not keep his own council, he keeps his own counsel. For what it's worth I quite enjoy reading your posts, but purely because they're different. I disagree with them most of them time, but that's the point of a football forum, right? To create debate?
