Excellent point! Hard to say. Stunning female lead singer. Proper loved herself but she was mesmerising. They ranged from Morcheeba-esque chilled out cafe del Mar stuff to bass driven almost dance stuff. But they had loads of different instruments (the trumpet player was amazing) and a lot of stuff built up to wall of sound kind of noise which I thought was their best stuff. Not my usual music but cracking gig, two proper random support acts too who were also very good
I'm doing their lights on Thursday in Leeds. Seen them a few times before, great stuff! If you're a fan you should check out their side project called 'Planas', or another band who are similar/on a similar scene are Gentlemen's Dub Club.
Nice one mate, will have a look at them. Good luck on Thursday. Off to the Cockpit on Sunday to see Alt-J
Alt-J are a cracking band. They were on the scene when I was a student in Leeds, but known as Films then. Weird to see them doing so well, as I used to work with Gus the keyboardist when he was a cashier in the supermarket at the students union! I've got Submotion on Thursday, then lights again for Mr Scruff in Leeds (another guy well worth a listen to if you're into that sort of thing).
I've seen Mr Scruff before at a festival but was way too drunk to remember! Played Tramlines this year too but was off watching some random bands. Reckon I've dropped on with Sunday's gig, Alt-j seem to be riding the crest off a wave. Feels like when I saw Artic Monkeys at the refectory when they were just about to go huge
