First I've either seen of the crash, or heard of 'how' it definitely happened. But it was exactly how I'd feared. Straight under the JCB thing, ripping through the area of his car where his head was.

Freak accident, but bloody awful. Thoughts are with him, too.

Why were they waving green flags there, surely they should have been yellow caution flags ?

So, he stopped a formula 1 grand prix car, going at considerable speed, with his head. Smart.

Do you know if there were double waved yellows at that corner? If not, someone wants *******.

You can see double yellows at the start of the video, then greens before the car was cleared. Then greens continued AFTER he ran through the JCB, before safety car.

That`s what I saw too! Why change the flags before the car was moved, Ok it would not have stopped the crash I dont think, but it is a stupid thing to do !

What on earth were they doing? On a wet track, with a JCB in the run off area where one car had already gone off, they start waving green flags? That's terrible, it really is.

Great idea to let heavy plant anywhere on trackside where a car could hit it. It was recovering a car which had come off track right there. Safety car should have been out. Flag signals incorrect for the situation. Race control have got some serious questions to answer.

I'm surprised he's still alive tbh.

It's a ******* miracle, having seen the incident now. I'm guessing he reacted quick enough to at least duck enough not to have his head severed.

Why not just stop the race for a couple of minutes. Mistake by some officials.

Surely with all the money in F1 thy can afford some large cranes, so they don't have to bring JCBs on, and they can lift it from afar...

You'd think so. Surely that one is capable of lifting a car from the other side of the tyrewall?

I suppose, in fairness it seems obvious to say that now, but probably didn't seem to obvious at the time

If he survives that, it's an absolute miracle.

It's obvious to me that heavy plant shouldn't be on trackside. Especially where a car has just come off track. In those conditions.

The yellows were at the marshal post just before the accident, the green you can see is technically at the next station even though it doesnt look it. The green indicates that the track is clear after you pass the flag not from when you can see it so in theory he should have slowed until he was pretty much bang level with the first crash and then floored it.
