just taken a phone call from a somewhat worse for wear, Mr Broddle. Basically, he's written a book due out on 6th September called 'Down The Line'. Whether you are or aren't interested in his story, can I suggest you buy it if only to put a name to the face as there are photos of ME (the 80's hair disaster) in there.
Just looked it up - hadn't realised what had become of him. Sorry to learn of his troubles and looking forward to reading more about the good times.
I remember him well, not a bad little player.. But the one thing that always sticks out for me. He seemed too self critical. If he put in a poor cross or pass, he always seemed to have a go at himself. Where other players would just get on with it. Ill read it, much prefer real life story's to fiction..
Not showing as free for me either unless a Kindle Unlimited user. Edit: There is a free trial at the moment for 2 months of Kindle Unlimited. You do need to cancel it but you can do that immediately and still use the trial for the 2 months. https://www.amazon.co.uk/kindle-dbs...m=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE&pf_rd_r=D3DGSSM6XWY5XG6PY773

The current Mrs leebrilleaux has kindle unlimited so she's 'bought' it for me - she has two kindles so I've got one of them - trouble is I just can't seem to 'get on' with the kindle - for me it's not like having a book in yer mitts - I keep trying to turn the kindle over.............
His perm had nothing on mine .....recently found an old picture i had taken when i first started on the tracky....i look like a bingo dabber...mind you at the time i thought i was the dogs bollcoks ...lol
The fact that you called her 'the current' Mrs leebrilleaux suggests that there has been former Mrs leebrilleaux's and may also be future Mrs leebrilleaux's. However, and I'm not going all psycho analyst on you here, but you've bought your current version, not one but TWO Kindles suggests to me that the current Mrs leebrilleaux is a 'keeper' which begs the question - Are you married to Clive Baker?
I've got a mate in Hull who always introduces his wife as the current Mrs Baker. They were childhood sweethearts and have now been married for 35 years. They are very happy and have a couple of kids. When asked why he says what he does he says it's to keep her on her toes.!
laugh at my expense...now that is a perm pmsl....all my own hair too ....21 year old ...lime green john player jacket and my old Barnsley scarf....told you i look like a bingo dabber...
My favourite keeper was Clive. I think it's because he was between the sticks when I first started supporting the Reds. I loved that time, Futch , Tiler, Banger, Clive, Hot shot Currie and Julian Broddle et al. One game I was really proud of the team was against Leicester City in the FA Cup at Filbert Street in January 1990. We had just parted company with Paul Futcher so I didn't give much for our chances. The heavens opened which seemed to neutralise Leicesters advantage of being the home team, but they still went ahead through Alan Paris in the first half. We were OK but never really looked like scoring. I was there as a guest of a supplier and was in the main home stand, so I had to keep my allegiances under wraps. We broke down the field and Steve Lowndes met a cross perfectly to level the scores. The ball was skidding all over the place and with not long left, David Curry abseiled through the slush and cracked an unstoppable shot past Martin Hodge in the Leicester goal. I nearly bit through my lip with unbridled joy. At the final whistle seemingly against all the odds we'd won 2-1. In the hospitality area afterwards I had a sarnie and a beer and listened to their supporters licking their wounds as they lamented the fact they'd lost to a team like Barnsley.! Thanks for some fantastic memories Julian and Co. I'll definitely be buying the book.
My first ever away match that, aged 11. Incredible atmosphere. Remember Mal Shotton rousing the crowd with a couple of minutes left (as if he needed to). The noise was deafening. Back in the days when FA Cup matches attracted sell-out crowds even in the early rounds.
Amazing. The only lad in our school with such a barnet was a black lad, so I'm assuming his afro was completely natural (he's bald now!). His best trick was turning up to classes without a pencil case, having hidden all his pens and pencils in his hair.
I too was at that game & it remains to this day one of my favourite away matches. Great following, as there always was in the Cup back then, with a fantastic atmosphere. Cracking cup tie played on a mud bath pitch....those were the days! Always enjoyed going to Filbert Street, great old school ground.
