Guys, Hope it is a good game and you enjoy your trip to the Hall…..just a few comments or our boards you might like to read Tale of the Tape League Meetings between Southend and Barnsley Southend wins = 15 Barnsley wins = 12 Draws = 15 Attendances League 1, 2005-06: Barnsley 9,054 Southend 8,053 Championship, 2006-07 Barnsley 12,733 Southend 10,054 Giants you are not (hence it won't be a giant-killing - you really do need to lower your own sights!), but you do get bigger gates than we do when in comparable divisions... Still, hope you northern monkey’s rock up here full of swagger and complacency. You are not half as good as you think they are. I actually think this is a near perfect draw . Reasons 1 -we owe them one - we stuffed them in the cup eventually but the home defeat effectively put us down 2-- we don't need the distraction of a glamour tie at the moment and certainly not 2 days before playing Leeds , who could be play-off rivals in May 3 ---the game is winnable IF we strenghten the squad . So the need to bring in new blood is still urgent and the lure of a glamour tie in round 5 (or dare I say 6 ?!) is still a big carrot 4 ---- hopefully we won't need a replay (again) but if we do then lets hope for a repeat of the fantastic support we had last year I think they should consider themselves lucky. I've been doing some research on the internet re what they have to put up with up there. So the internet says (so it must be true): Up in Yorkshire it always rains, the folk have no money, they live in the middle of road, suck on a piece of damp cloth for nutrition, play with ferrets, wear flat caps 24/7, say 'ey bye gum' all the time, look like they were 75 years old from the age of ten, watch Heartbeat and marry their mother. Now, I know Southend isn't the most cultured of places but I reckon we have more to look forward to than that. So when they come down to Roots Hall spare a thought for them, have some sympathy, and then watch Southend stuff them out the Cup! JUST A BIT OF BANTER GUYS Guys….Don’t shoot the messenger ?
Welcome Not sure if I shall be putting on my flat cap yet and taking Kes on a friday night to Essex. Considering we have a stronger team than last season and you a weaker team, I guess I will take another 3-1. Annoyed with it being a friday night though.
RE: Welcome Yeah it is not the best for you guys to get down here but i think it suits both clubs re there next games....you and Col U (Scum) and us and Leeds (more scum)
Sorry your Wembley final is now on a Friday. Rather dampens it all, doesn't it. Please bear in mind.... WE ARE THE BIG TEAM , you are the small. We are SO big it hurts.
RE: Welcome Works out a bit expensive to say we are only playing a team like you. 15 for the ticket, 15 for the coach and 20 for the taxi home after 2am. On top of that, from leaving home to getting home at a silly hour will be half a day of travelling. Food and drink on top and say a programme as well. All this for friday night at Roots Hall. And they wonder why a lot of us think the cup as lost it's glamour.
RE: Welcome Book in to a B&B in Southend and make a weekend of it....the Essex Girls are always up for it
RE: Sorry your Wembley final is now on a Friday. well if you are that big it will hurt you even more when we open a can of Whoop arse on you
Its nailed on he wont do anything when he plays against you but hes been a good addition to our team, causes other teams problems, except Bristol when he got sent off for diving even though we should have had a pen. Ive got a soft spot for Southend, my aunty lives there, she says its a **** hole though
so effectivly you are saying you have a soft spot and it is your **** Hole?? Wow you Northern Boys really do love Gravey It is not bad at all, as all towns you just have to know were to go mate
personally i think we'll lose i'll be there tho. i'll we wearing a red barnsley shirt if ya wanna say hi and buy me some gravy
RE: personally i think we'll lose lol....No wories, Will look out for you, i will be the guy in the Blue Southend Shirt eating some cocles and winkles
Chav Central.... Stayed for the weekend last season, just what l imagined, girls in white tracksuits, pregnant with slap back hair. Me and my girlfriend went out for a meal on the Saturday night and when we tried to order wine l was told they dont sell it people bring their own or go to the off licence next door, class. Why on your boards are you so excited about Leeds? you say we only had a higher average attendance last season because we had sell outs where visiting clubs had 6,000 fans plus, Leeds were not one of these clubs we gave them 6,000 tickets and they sent 3,000 back. Thing is with Leeds the fans watch them when they are winning, compare their crowds last season to this season. They are not famous anymore and we dont give a ****.
RE: Chav Central.... "when we tried to order wine l was told they dont sell it people bring their own or go to the off licence next door, class" To be fair, that can happen in a number of places when they don't have a licence to serve alcohol. Went to a place in Philadelphia that did that (there are quite a few BYOB restaurants there), didn't detract from the fact the food was top notch - in fact in some ways it's better as you aren't paying 3 times what a bottle of wine costs.
RE: Chav Central.... Jesus, restaurants without wine lists? where do you go? l have been to Florida a few times and never encountered it there. Eating in a place without a wine list was a new experience for my girlfriend. She drinks wine in the East Stand bars though so l have knocked her down a peg or too well if you can call it wine.
RE: Chav Central.... Mumtaz in Bradford doesn't serve alcohol, and I don't think you can take your own in to consume either....but quality food. I don't find it much of a problem, I just make sure it's my turn to be the driver if I'm going!
