There's been a death up here, on a lane about 100 yards from our house. Happened in the last hour. Be careful out there, people.
Horrible news We didn't have a fun time getting back to Leeds from Barnsley. It wasn't particularly deep but it was blooming hard to see on all the country lanes that have no lights or even cat's eyes and our headlights just made the snow shine. Also, a lorry decided to overtake everyone on the motorway and threw a load of crap with the wind which snapped our windscreen wiper. We obviously couldn't switch them off as we couldn't see anything without them, so now our windscreen has a great big scratch all along it.
And when you think you're being careful and 'this'll do' then be a little bit more careful. Its not all about just going slower though, creeping around can be just as dangerous. Best bet is to plan your route and think ahead. Know theres a T junction up ahead? Start slowing down for it now because the last thing you want is to go plowing straught through when the car doesnt stop.
Two female family members have had to leave their cars tonight and walk the rest of their way home. It's solid up here. Seen a mate on facebook describing similar for their lass. The country lanes are a basterd up here aren't they?
Spot on. Been in Stocksbridge this aft. From light snow appearing we got in car within half an hour. Still ended up abandoning car in Hillsborough and walking two miles home in a blizzard. Luckily we were reasonably well kitted out. I know for a fact that some if our fellow reds have abandoned cars on way home from Preston and had to walk in snow.as far as I know all safe.
Fingers crossed and all that. We've had no reason to go out tonight, thankfully. Party at Jacob's tomorrow cancelled too. Quiet day chilling at home, safe.
And I'm out in Knaresborough tonight. PS - im a party animal, but that animal is a sort of kitten or bunny these days.
Update on the accident I mentioned. http://www.thetelegraphandargus.co....ver__75__dies_after_being_hit_by_car_in_snow/
Be better up that way than last night. Because the council hadn't gritted the main roads two of us were one of many cars we had to abandon for the night at the side of the road up Hoylandswaine hill. Helped push four different cars up the hill community spirit and all that. Took around two and a half hours to walk from Swaine to Barnsley town centre. Wellington Street hadn't been cleared for the party goers. Surf was shut, taxis weren't picking folks up and Blue Room was rammed.
