.....I'm putting Nicky Barmby's name out there, see what a few mentions on here, FB, Twitter does to his odds. Young, unassuming fella, did reasonably well at Hull (40% win ratio) playing decent football until foreign owners decided they didn't fancy him. He might fancy the challenge. None of this 'till the end of the season' nonsense, though - give him a decent contract and a few shillings to spend.
I'd be more than happy with Barmby - he's managed at this level and done reasonably well. I'm sure he's still got plenty to learn but he'd be a good fit for us. Saying that, I'd be equally as happy with an unheard of spanish manager who can bring a load of unknown players with him and have us playing tika taka football. I find the links to Phil Brown, Terry Butcher, Paul Ince etc a bit depressing and would rather see us be a bit more forward thinking. We should be analysing how the next appointment will help BFC over the next 5/10 years - not just the next 6 months. Someone with a 40% win ratio at this level should be under consideration.
That is a great call - would take him in a heartbeat - it would be a forward thinking move - young and hungry rather than an old warhorse.
Is he young and hungry though? He was at Hull (home town club), but wasn't very hungry playing for Leeds and Forest before he signed for them. Hasn't bust a gut trying to get back in to management? Right time, right club, wrong premature ending maybe. He's definitely young mind, before the pedantic brigade pop up.
Just reading the Hull forums from when Barmby was sacked - consensus was they were very sad to see him go. Quote "a feisty little f**ker who wears his heart on his sleeve"........."the best bloke to have been involved in the club in the last 10 years"
Id be over the moon with Nick Barmby as manager. Did a decent job at Hull, think the budget he had would have been considerably more than what he'll have here.
If where talking grammar/typo errors after last night. Its two spaces after a full stop Micky. Just saying .
Would probably be my first choice now. Seems a shrewd guy, plenty of experience in the game, knows the Championship and did a VERY good job with Hull last season. Still think someone with experience would be best but let's face it, Billy Davies or Owen Coyle would already be in the job if they wanted it. Hignett would be great and unite the fans but a bigger gamble than Barmby.
