I'd have taken a point before the match but, with hindsight, it feels like an opportunity missed.

We basically set out not to lose the game and offered very little in terms of trying to nick a goal. Reading looked like a team out of sorts (indeed their fans started booing them during the first half) but we didn't look like ever trying to capitalise on this. In the end we have Luke Steel to thank for keeping us in the game with a least 3 great saves I can think of.

The problem is that I can see Norwich having a real go at Reading next week and, based on today's evidence, I can see them nicking a win. In the end our negativity will be our undoing.

Some positives - Steele looked solid, Moore and Hassell were excellent in defence.

Hammill had a quiet game and, although non of our midfield/front men had particularly bad games we never really looked capable of scoring. The best chance we had was a bit of solo skill from De Silva but he dragged his shot wide.

We had a bit of a shout for a handball in the second half, but I think Reading had two better penalty shouts denied them too.

In the end, we picked up a much needed point, but I'm still left feeling a bit deflated. Hopefully we'll take a more positive approach to Coventry.

    That penalty shout of ours...

I was just behind the goal and was convinced it hit his arm. Whilst it may have been ball to hand, I do think he controlled it and gained an advantage straight in front of goal.

It was one of those 'ball to hand' ones. If given against us I'd have thought it harsh.

Felt sure they were going to be given one for the trip near the edge of the area. Was relieved when ref waved play on.

Thank you for posting what appears to be an honest appraisal.

it can't be fair, or objective, of course. And it is liable to dissection.

But then again we're all paranoid at the moment.

That's always the best way to judge honestly if a penalty shout was valid.

Totally agree with your report, and i feel the same way.
I do not think, however, that we will be more positive against Reading. I said to my mate jokingly before the game that four nil nil draws will keep us up.

    Agree, far too negative

and that will cost us; we could be winning games if we tried attacking rather than hoping for a point, we need all 3 and could have got them today. Earlier on in the season and I would have been pleased with a point but time is running out. Steele was great today.
