Can't see much stuff about how we played in earlier posts but I haven't trawled through them all so apologies. First thing to say is that there was only ever going to be two possible results today; a 0-0 draw or we would lose. Unfortunately it was the second. Davey's tactics were experimental to say the least. Whatever folk from afar might have thought, we actually played 5 - 2 - 1 - 2 with Macken being the 1 (sometimes he ended up being the most advanced as Stan and KO dropped back to help Howard and Togwell! Now whatever you think about our forwards one thing is for certain, they are not going to score without crosses coming in and that just could not happen. Even when JCR came on for last quarter of an hour it didn't really cause a change in tactics. First half was OK with Stan and KO doing what they know best (shooting wide) but at least defensively the back 5 did well. Second half was simply pitiful. Shocking defending for the first goal and then no attempt whatsoever to try and get one back. I've seen us play six away league games and we haven't scored in any of them! Let's hope we can get enough points at home.
Sorry but that's just not right.
It's were.
There were only going to be two possible results.

Reading todays paper Davey says our league position is due to our schedule. Sorry I dont agree Simon. Its down to our woeful, embarrassing away form and a pool of strikers that would struggle in the Elm Valley league. I mean, Missing from 3 rds and shooting straight at the keeper with the goal at your mercy? laughable and a striker clear out a must at the end of the season. Without Brian Howard goals we would be knackered!
Correct, it's a shambles away from home, and as someone as already pointed out Barnsley have only scored 11 goals. The worst outside the premiership, tactics, formation should go out of the window, but it wont make much difference, we are totally inept at scoring away. It's getting worrying now, a great cup run followed by possible relegation. It's never easy being a Barnsley fan.
First half was good, we had the better of it with a couple of close efforts. 2nd half -pants. On 50 minutes we allowed a player to cut in from the left and run at us unchallenged to the edge of the box. He shot and scored. After that Palace of course got a confidence boost and began to boss it, unlike the first half. We made various substitutions and lost a bit of shape. No width today, main tactic was a long punt down the middle for K.O. who would nod it on for a runner. Very very disappointing after the promising first half.
Half time report on Radio Sheffield said we had missed good chances. With us you just know its going to be costly. Home wins are crucial from now on.
Maken and Ferenczi never looked like scoring, whereas KO did. He was far more of a handful than the other two. He created quite a few knock ons with headers, but no-one took advantage. I can't remember ANY crosses in the game, as we had no-one out wide. Both wingers were sat on the bench. Is it now 35 away games without a win? SD and the team need to get this sorted before we get into a dangerous league position.
Surely not 35 games? If we hadnt been a bit lucky at Southampton we could be looking at no league wins at all. Is this our worst ever away record? I cant remember a worse one.........
I don't want to jump onto the Christensen bandwagon... ... but I'm going to have to. Yesterday we missed 2 chances which would have put us 2-0 before half-time. But some woeful finishing let us down. I won't criticise the tactics, because first half they worked a treat, and we never looked in any trouble. Second half was another story. So how about giving Kim a go, at least on the bench? It might not work, and if that's the case, fair enough, he's not the man. But we have to ask 1) Why, when we have a goal-scoring problem, are we not examining all the possible solutions? 2) If Christensen is not to be a part of the plans, why didn't we try and get shut in January, and lighten the wage-bill?
Christensen- what's he done wrong? (allegedly) Saw him once, at Charlton. Looked ok, even scored a goal. How's he got in SD's bad books?
RE: Christensen- what's he done wrong? (allegedly) can't for the life of me understand it, with the exception af Macken the other strikers do'nt look like they could score in a brothel. You can only hope (in a way) its something serious because if its a case of one mans bloody mindedness stopping us having another otion up front ( and I realise its still debatable if he would be the answer) its a truly ridiculous situation
What I don't understand more than anything is the silence Why refuse to comment on the matter? If it's true that he under performs in training then surely a public show of confidence would be a good thing? Along the lines of saying in an interview: "Bo knows what I expect in training and the standards I set, and me and him both know that once he achieves this he'll very much be in my first team plans, that's why I went out of my way to purchase him in the summer"
RE: What I don't understand more than anything is the silence He might have made the mistake of throwing his teddy out of the cot like Colgan, Johnson etc.
