Wow, what a building. Weren't they criticised when it was built for spending so much on it when it could have been spent elsewhere. Not many towns the size of ours has a centrepiece like that.
Criticised by George Orwell in The Road To Wigan Pier. At the time I suppose he had a fair point. I would expect most towns in this country would have a fairly ornate town hall.
only been inside once, is the registry office still in there? can prob imagine for such a big building not that many people actually go in it
it's been a museum for the last 50 years at least......to work, as not a lot ever goes off in it............ only councillors and the like enjoying their freebies. hth
Yes, we went in for the registry office. The museum stuff is being showcased, I'll be calling in once it's all fully opened.
