Just been messing online and done a BMI test, now there's no point telling porkies mine came out at 28.2 overweight. I'm 6ft and weigh 14st 12, I have a big frame but would never class myself as over weight. I know it stupid but it's saying I need to be 13st7 to be a healthy weight. With my body structure I would look silly at that weight. Anyone else done one ?
BMI doesn't take body frame into account at all, or percentage of body fat which from what I have read is a far more accurate indicator as to general health. According to BMI caculations, most heavyweight boxers would fall into the "seriously obese" category, despite the fact that most of them will be carrying very little fat.
It just got me thinking, I have to lose according to that 1st 5 to get what they suggest me be healthy.
Correct as it fails to differentiate between types of bosy tissue - namely muscle and fat. It should only be used as a loose indicator, with body fat percentage being the key barometer of health.
To top it off it goes on to say I'm at the risk of diabetes and heart disease ( thanks so I'm fat and risk of been ill) made my day lol
Had them done at work once while in Oz. One of the fitest guys in the office who was a very good competition swimmer (just below olympic standard), did triathlon's etc was told he was morbidly obese! I, on the other hand, with my pot belly and all, was fine.
Load of pap. The majority of chronic alcoholics are stick thin, and smoke like chimneys. Fancy them to have a heart attack before the moderately overweight but generally healthy non-smoker for example.
