We stay up in 19th on 53 points (same as Hudders, Fowls and Wolves) but it looks pretty dodgy until the last few weeks when we beat Charlton and Derby in successive home games. We win at Huddersfield on the last day to save ourselves. Bristol City and Blackpool, who meet on the final day, also go down on 51 and 52, which suggests I was being a bit generous to the sides at the bottom so as to err on the side of caution. Peterboro are bottom on 38. Anyway, if we lose at Boro next week (which the toughness of the fixture and the law of averages says we might well do), the FA Cup 5th Round will mean that we could get cut adrift again before the Wolves game. If we do there's no need to panic, I am absolutely sure that we will achieve the points needed to stay up. Every point now is a point gained, which is what I was saying yesterday even at 1-1.
i know i'll get hammered for negativity, but i was having similar thoughts. right now we're within 2 points - just 1 result - from being out the bottom. but a defeat against boro wouldn't be a surprise. also, all the teams around us are at home next sat. we then have the Cup, while the other teams have games. so i'm expecting us to be more than 2 points from safety by the time we play wolves. i just wish we'd got the wolves game on tuesday, but right now the fixtures seem to be conspiring against us. heady days ahead
Funnily enough, I have us finishing 19th on 53 points too, but only getting a draw at Huddersfield which sends them down with Bristol City and Peterborough. The other 2 teams I have us finishing above are Wednesday and Wolves, but as I have Wednesday winning the last game it means that we are safe before then (if only!). I have Blackpool finishing 12th though...
Other teams WILL lose (including us) Thats why we're (and they) are in the bottom half We just need to lose less often than them! AND WE WILL
Anyone can beat anyone in this league... Boro haven't won a game this year! Could be a good time to play them. Away draw would be my prediction. Then we play our 3 closest rivals... Wolves at home, Bristol city away and Bolton home... All four out of form and in a relegation fight. The next four Could be key to survival. I predict 8pts... 2away draws and 2 home wins
If Flicker does what Hill couldn't and beats the teams around us we should be ok. If we do drop this season it will be the home games against Wednesday, Brum, Brizzle and Posh that have cost us dearly.
I predicted 6 from the next four - lose the two away games (need to be cautious!) but that wouldn't be a disaster. Eight or more and that would be an enormous step towards securing survival. I still think there are plenty of ups and downs in store for us. Just hoping that the final bounce isn't down!
