Woman from NatWest Called, (now I’m actually expecting a call from them today) As she went through the security questions, it became clearer this wasn’t the issue that I thought they were calling for. I didn’t give any bank account details as such but I confirmed I had other accounts. She mentioned. 2 transactions that I knew nothing about, 1 being with EE. She then put me on hold saying she was transferring me to the fraud team. In the meantime I googled the number and a number of references came up quoting it as a scam. By this time the ‘fraud team’ came through saying they were going to give me a new account that would mirror my current account and I would keep my old account number. I hung up and called the NatWest Fraud team. They were aware of this scammer and confirmed the latest transactions on my account matched what was showing on my account and therefore no fraudulent activity has taken place. He said to block the number and confirmed they would never do anything like this. All this stemmed from a fake NHS Covid message last week, where I stupidly replied to the request for 99pence delivery charge for the testing kit. Fortunately I realised very soon after what I’d done and contacted NatWest fraud who stopped my card and sent me a new one. It just goes to show how easily and what lengths these scammers will go to.
