Yeah he was up front playing alongside seemed to spend quite a bit of the time coming from the left hand side of Ferenczi
Tactical formations depend on where you draw lines across the pitch.
4-4-1-1 is just a variation of 4-4-2.
Coaches divide the pitch into 3rds. A defensive 3rd, a middle 3rd and an attacking 3rd. Hence, 4 players in the defensive 3rd, 4 in midfield 3rd and two in the attacking 3rd is called 4-4-2.
The media started to call 4-4-2 where a striker plays in the hole behind striker 4-4-1-1 to deferentiate it from where the two attackers play side by side. A coach would say one of the strikers played in the hole or that he played with a withdrawn striker.
When a team play with a midfield diamond its some times called 4-1-2-1-2 or 4-1-2-1-1-1, when Brazil play with a box midfield box it gets called 4-2-2-2 or 4-2-2-1-1. But you still have a 4 man midfield.
Formations are dynamic they change depending on if the team is attacking or defending. 4-5-1 or 4-3-3? Again it depends on what on what the team is doing.

So you are all correct IMHO.

(casualty)
