Haven't you recently taken up a new position?

Or have I got that completely wrong.

    Kinell fire spadger.

You can stay in my garage.
When I say 'garage' - I obviously mean 'driveway / pavement'.

Seriously mate - good luck & all that.
I hope it all turns out okay for you.

Maybe you should steer clear of the Indian breakfasts for a while?

It's a sign of the times in academia....

We've had two restructuring 'exercises' in our place (why it's called an exercise I don't know) and I think in both instances the die was cast before the formal process began. I don't know what your place is like, but out department had a lot of people who had been around a long time and were basically killing time til they retired. These were the ones who were shown the door.

It sounds like a cull prior to the RAE in 2007. You're young and dynamic so hopefully you shouldn't have too much to worry about. You should have a good idea of teh outcome when you see the spec of the 'new' roles for the department when they're announced.

Good luck mate, I'm sure you'll be reight.

    RE:

Don't let it get you down.
12 weeks is a long time and it may not happen.
Some firms enjoy putting the fear of god into their workers just to pressure them in to making unpopular changes.
If it does just look at it as a new opportunity.
I'd start looking for a new job just in case.

Do you work at Potters ?

    RE: Academia?

Been through a few of these restructures in FE myself.

2 guys I worked with 3 years ago took voluntary redundancy, after the Director of HR interviewed every member of staff, the management ruled by fear for several months.

The two who went were both exellent lecturers and guess what?

Come September we were 3 members of staff down.

Oh, we are sorry we made a mistake with our figures said the ****** who was the HOD.

I'm glad I no longer teach in FE the management were a bunch of tossers who couldn't run a chippy!

Cheers lad, I was meant to be going at Easter, but that is now postponed. Keep me updated on next year's developments though. Oh, and about that bill which I still haven't got.....do they accept used stamps as partial payment!?

Cheers both, I work at Leeds Met Uni, will be engaging in some networking opportunities now. My job might be safe, it is not knowing that is unsettling. Worse for those with families though.

Ta Pete, some of what you say could well be right, it is a bit more complex than meets the eye, and I wont go into it on here, but fingers crossed my age, enthusiasm, past performance, and the book will count for summat.
