I have to say that it was, overall, a scrappy game and at times I questioned if either team really was up for it. We had the better of the chances - particularly in the first half - but Ipswich missed one or two sitters of their own. It looked like what it was - a bottom of the table scrap in less than ideal conditions. I'dve felt really hard done by not to get something, but I thought the draw was a credit because the lads didn't give up and they kept grinding away. When Rose came on he showed a bit of guile and ghosted in to take his header - he lost his man and stuck it away before anyone realised it. A bit of quality right there. Marlon's misses were pretty bad. The first was tame and he had a man over if he'd squared it. The second one he really took his time over and he seemed really composed, but banged it against the far post. At the end of the day these are one on one chances - he did well to cause problems and he was awkward all day, but you have to take one on one chances. For me we lacked guile and creativity. The chances did come, but Ipswich were poor and offered us unforced errors. I really thought that Ipswich looked turgid and clumsy. Stones is class - comfortable on the ball, good going forward, excellent positioning, solid tackling. One or two odd mistakes here, but nothing that offered us danger. That lad is gifted. Bottom line for me is that this point might mean a lot come the end of the season.
Well done for making the trip, and making it there and back safely. I think you deserve a beer this evening!
Good of you to nominate me but I live on the Suffolk/Cambridgeshire border so this is like a home game for me! If I had dropped my dad off home in rural south Cambridgeshire I'd been home by six! I also get to, probably the least games of anyone on this board I reckon. Got to be honest!
thanks for that fella and top man for making such a trip in the weather conditions. Hopefully we will sign one or two who might just make the difference. Now go and grab a jug of something strong..
Watching the goal, it looks like Kennedy is purposefully looking for Rose making the run and signals where he's going to put the corner. If that is the case it was a superbly worked goal, the kind we are usually on the receiving end of. Cheers for the report mate.
It was very clinical. Made the run, got in front of his man, timed it brilliantly, low and hard - I'm not sure the goalie dived.
There were 175 Tykes at Portman Road, according to their announcement. We should really have been 2-1 up at half-time. We had two one-on-ones, both of them were Marlon Harewood against their goalkeeper, and neither was converted. First one, the shot was parried, and the second, he hit the post. He was put through by great passes from Mellis on both occasions. A worry when Stephen Dawson was stretchered off early on, but Kelvin Etuhu really put himself about as his replacement. A strangely lacklustre performance today by David Perkins, who uncharacteristically put several passes straight to the opposition, but overall it was a good performance, deserving of at least a point. We should really have been out of sight at half-time, but credit to Flicker, the lads are giving 100% without doubt. The 3-5-2 formation looks good, and Fozzy put in a sound performance today, as did Crainie and Kennedy. Quick reply to this message
Agree with a lot of the above. Ipswich only had one real chance first half, which Steele did really well to palm away. We did dominate the first half, and Marlon should have had 2 goals, including the one that hit the post. Perkins also had a great opportunity to smash one in but oddly went for the side foot and it didn't even go out for a goal kick. Whilst I have been a supporter of Perkins in the past, I don't think he's playing well at the moment, and alot of his passes today went straight to an Ipswich player. Second half we seemed to switch off, and didn't have a chance of note before they scored. Having said that, it was probably their first shot on goal. To be fair, we upped the tempo again, and the substitutions seemed to add to this, and we got a well deserved equaliser. Some positive points. Daggers worked hard, and although Marlon should have scored 2 or 3, he worked hard all afternoon. Foster, Crainie and Kennedy were solid all game impressed by Kennedy). Mellis had a decent game. Some negative points. Perkins I have already mentioned. Stones didn't have the best of games, and neither did Golbourne. What worries me about playing Stones and Golbourne in their current positions is tat, although they offer a lot defensively, they rarely bomb forward as wing backs with any conviction of beating a man and getting a good cross in. So most of our threats today seemed to come from threaded balls through from midfield for Daganll and Harewood to feed off. Finally, the sub Etuhu was a strange one. He seemed not to know where he was and what he should be doing, although he did win some tackles and headers. I would have thought maybe Cywka should have been brought on and played Perkins in front of the back three. But what do I know? Flicker is a great bloke and has my full support. Had a good chat with him before the game and he really is going to connect well with the fans, I think. He should have had 3 points today, just like the Peterborough game. But we have to be grateful for Danny Rose's late equaliser which was nothing more than we deserved and which sent the 175 travelling Reds' supporters wild with delight.
