Report from Official Site BARNSLEY 4 (Coulson 5, Frost 25, Ormsby 38, Harban 60 (P)) NOTTINGHAM FOREST 0
BARNSLEY'S reserves ended their home Pontin's Holidays League campaign on a high with a resounding victory over Nottingham Forest.
It was the perfect start to the final home reserve team game of the season on just five minutes as Danny Frost found a great pass to free Michael Coulson down the right and the striker hammered the ball home giving Shane Redmond no chance.
Forest were almost lucky on 15 minutes as Alan Power's well-struck effort from distance hit a defender and could have crept in at the far post but for Kyle Letheren's excellent diving save.
Frost almost got in on 19 minutes as he capitalised on a poor Redmond clearance to race in on the Forest keeper. The youngster did well to stay on his feet as he hurdled past Redmond but could not turn the ball into an empty goal from a tight angle.
Coulson beat the offside trap a minute later but found Redmond in fine form as the Forest did well to parry his point blank shot to safety.
Coulson again showed his class on 25 minutes to get beyond the Forest backline. This time the youngster picked out Frost in the middle and his strike-partner rammed the ball home from 12 yards.
Young Coulson almost grabbed a third just four minutes later as he again broke the offside trap to race onto Stefan Holt's exquisite pass but drove his shot across goal and a foot wide of the far post.
Forest's frustration almost boiled over on 31 minutes as Emile Sinclair went in studs high on Letheren after the Reds keeper had grabbed a through ball. There was a bit of pushing and shoving but neither player was cautioned.
It was almost three on 34 minutes as a lob over the top of the Forest defence somehow found Ryan Jennings in acres of space but the defender could only volley straight at Redmond, who grabbed the ball at the second attempt.
The goal finally came on 37 minutes and again it was Coulson who was at the heart of the move as the striker was sent sprawling in the area by Hamza Bencherif's clumsy challenge. Coulson took the penalty himself but Redmond pulled off a fine save only to see Liam Ormsby on hand to tuck the rebound into the net.
Jacob Butterfield almost made it four just a minute later as he danced his way past a couple of half-hearted challenges before bringing a superb save from Redmond with a fierce shot from the edge of the area.
Forest started the second half positively and Sinclair forced Letheren into a save on 53 minutes as he managed to find a yard of space in the area before shooting low. Brendon Moloney then flashed a shot well wide of the target three minutes later after patient play around the Barnsley penalty area.
The Reds responded and Frost found himself a yard inside the area on the hour mark only to have his run checked by Vincent Fernandez's tackle. The referee pointed to the spot and this time Thomas Harban showed great composure to slot the perfect penalty past Redmond.
It was all Barnsley as Forest struggled to recover from Harban's spotkick. Holt almost added a fifth on 65 minutes as he hit a shot two yards or so over the bar after breaking well on the edge of the box.
BARNSLEY: Letheren, Smith, Harban, Jennings, Potter, White, Ormsby (Fedorenko 72), Holt, Butterfield, Frost (Wyatt 85), Coulson.
