near Lancaster, the whole village has various scarecrows outside their houses, this years main theme was the world cup, its an excellent way to spend an hour or two (or four in our case), its an annuual event and runs for 10 days or so, last day to morrow, bit of a drive from barnsley but different, i think there is a village near Brid which also has a scarecrow festival but the year we were over there it had been cancelled due to foot and mouth
Wetwang scarecrow week <span class="MainTitle">WETWANG SCARECROW WEEK 2006</span> <span class="MainText">Scarecrow Festival The annual Scarecrow Festival is to be held over the period Saturday 27th May to Sunday 4th June. The classes this year are: 1. World Cup. 2. Novelty. 3. Traditional. 4. Film Character. This year, as a new innovation, Workshops will be held in the Community Hall on the run up to the event to give ideas and help people construct scarecrows. Start collecting those old clothes NOW! Each day for the duration of the festival the Community Hall will be open and refreshments will be on sale. There will also be various stalls and competitions. As usual when organising events such as this a much help as possible would be greatly appreciated in the following areas. 1. Baking - Cakes, Buns, Scones etc. At the start and during the week. 2. Helping on the stalls and in the Tea Rooms each day. There will be three shifts. a. 11am to 2pm. b. 2pm to 5pm c. 5pm to 7pm. </span>
LOL most rural festivals were cencelled that year, 2001, due to concerns that the movements of people could assist in the spreading of the disease, most walks in the lakes were closed so places like Arnside, with many shore walks really benefitted with added numbers of visitors, Morecambe really benefitted also as of course people could walk along the prom (tiddly um pom pom)
