First half we edged it, couldn't see much of Fozzie's goal at the far end. 2nd half, Reading came at us, as to be expected, and we were under some intense pressure for the first 20 minutes or so. Everyone battling, putting themselves about, with the exception of Haynes. An example of how uninterested he was came around 50th minute. Our attack broke down, with the ball in their keeper's hands. Everyone went upfield back into Barnsley's half - except for Haynes. Goalkeeper punted it upfield, and Haynes strolled lazily back, towards the half-way line, taking so much time as he pleased while his team mates were doing his work for him, trying to contain Reading. I deplore his attitude, and not only for this incident. He was rightly subbed soon after by Hill, who in my view should confront Haynes about his lack of commitment - as should his team mates How old is the guy, 24 or 14?? On to better things, a superb performance by Luke Steele, not only with the two penalty saves. A complete contrast to Haynes was Davies, who impressed me. Late on we came back at them, with Butts going close with a left footer from the edge of the box, narrowly wide, Davies striking a fierce shot, and finally Andy Gray having a header saved on the line, from a corner. In summary, strong pressure from Reading 2nd half, but don't take anything away from this performance. We deserved the win.
Sounds like he is trying to leave the Club before the August deadline, he did exactly this at Bristol before his move to us ! Time to cash in me thinks!
The enigma that is Danny Haynes. I'm sure there's talent there but he must start producing the goods more regularly otherwise the team can't afford to keep carrying him. If an acceptable offer came in then i'd be tempted to cash in.
Just got back after a night out. A few other observations. JayMac had a bit of a torrid time 2nd half. Pulled off by Hill, because their right winger was very tricky, & JayMac was on a yellow. Davies impressed me, he looked skillful and worked hard - unlike his mate up front (Haynes), who just looked as if he couldn't be bothered, quite ready to shift his workload onto his team mates. Andy Gray was so much more effective when replacing Haynes. Worked hard, closed down their defenders, and almost scored.
If he doesn't want to be here then best to get rid and get some cash for the maungy git. If he doesn't leave and doesn't sort his commitment out then he needs to be dropped.
Haynes has skill and pace - but it counts for nothing without any work ethic and motivation, which he definitely seems to lack. Someone needs to instill this into him, and if management have difficulty here, then sell the guy. I was realy p****d off today to see him sauntering around whilst his team mates were working so hard.
Re: Was Davies played on the right (or the left)? Yes, Davies on the right with Haynes in the middle.
Seemed to work For Davies anyway. I've rarely seen Haynes have a good game out wide and now it seems he can't do it through the middle. Although to be fair to the lad, and I know you said he was lazy today which can't be excused, I think he'd be a lot better in a two up front with a target man to play off.
Re: Seemed to work id get rid anyway. he has looked the same ever since the season began. he has pace, and can finish, make good runs. but he's no ball control, he isnt able to play wide, hasnt the skill to beat players, and his attitude sucks.. get rid, get ALF in.
You have got to take your hat off to the guys that went to Reading........ ........after all whats been happening at the club over the last 2 weeks i.e. 2 home defeats, fans booing and the manager getting rattled
Thanks Nudger It took me nearly 45 mins to make the treck there Actually I nearly didnt go so well done to those that travelled from Tarn Glad I went now - It happens enough to make it worth it just once in a while - only slight problem is thats probably it for the season for pleasant surprises Got to decide about Millwall now - had we performed like the last 2 home games I was definitely not going now I need to think about it
Re: Thanks Nudger Looking forward to Millwall -want to see another performance with everyone working hard. Got my ticket for The Den- and the tin hat ready!
