back and how we walked away from London road without a point is a miracle! Totally bossed the second half and played relatively well in the second half, if we play with the spirit and endeavour we showed in the second half we'll certainly give it a good go at staying up. As for all the morons out there wanting rowing sacked and Taylor and whoever else you don't like what about concentrating on cheering and supporting the team instead of acting like spoilt brats and dispelling all your negativeness on the world. Get a grip for **** sake!!!
No negativity really, the crowd got behind the team like it usually does away from home and with a belly full of beer!
Oh maybe they left all the negativity on the internet then, where it should be. Which is why forums like these are a God send, because without them, the negativity would spill over into Oakwell etc. Best left on here in my opinion.
Good atmosphere mate, really good infact. There second dropped in and you could hear a pin drop but players got a good applause at final whistle. I'm gutted, really thought we'd get something from the game today. Won't give in though till it's over
You're quite right. I always say I support the team on a match day, and bring my ranting to the bulletin board. It's because we care, that we do both.
We deserved at least a point today, if not all three. Flicker began with a refreshing 3-5 2 formation, with Kennedy, McNulty, Crainie at the back, with Stones and Golbourne out wide right and left respectively, and Perks, Dawson and Jim O'B central, leaving Daggers and Davies up front. They took the lead against the run of play with a direct free kick, and that gave them the boost for the remainder of the first half. If only we could score first! However, the 2nd half was virtually constant Tykes pressure, culminating with a goal from Harewood who replaced the disappointing Davies. Harewood really did liven up things, and I'd play him from the start next week. His goal came after a prolonged period of pressure from us, with Daggers going very close twice. Firstly, he ran into the box, jinking past 3 defenders and unleashing a shot which was blocked, and secondly, 5 minutes later, he unleashed a fierce drive from around 20 yards which smacked against the post with the goalkeeper beaten. The guy seems jinxed! After Harewood scored, (following a 2 minute discussion between the referee and the flagging linesman, why I do not know), Posh scored against the run of play, after being dominated by us for long, long periods. Disregard the match stats of possession, they are in no way correct up to the point I had to leave after they scored, around 85 minutes, to catch a train back to London. All you Flicker doubters, I can tell you that the players could NOT have given more, even with Sir Alex Ferguson in charge. We came away with nothing most undeservedly. I would defy any new manager to get more out of the players than I witnessed today.
Not quite right about the free kick, it was in-direct and was passed sidewards before the shot/goal. Thats whats so dissapointing that we couldn't close it down before it hit the back of the net. Also we were lucky to get the goal cos it deffo hit perkins on the way in who was 3 yds offside. I looked straight over to the linesman who was very late putting his flag up. The ref never saw this so gave the goal which was no more than we deserved on the run of play mind.
Yes, you're correct, it was passed sideways, and it was disappointing that it evaded the wall. You'll agree that the goal gave Posh some impetus for the remainder of the 1st half, with some slick passing. But on that 2nd half alone, we deserved some reward.
O i, we should have won that, no doubt. Shoud've started with Marlon and not want-away Davies and we just might have....
Just playing devils advocate but could it be that Posh scored and then didn't need to attack us as they were leading? We FINALLY scored, just as they were thinking they had the game won, they then decided to have a go and scored as soon as they bothered.
Ponty, they had very little possession in the 2nd half, we attacked for prolonged periods. Yes they probably sat back to some extent, but they had little option, we were so dominant. If only we could score FIRST, and then score again, as teams are forced to come at us and leave gaps.
No.they couldn't get the ball off us second half. We had corner after corner, cross after cross, had mr "can't be arsed" davies threw himself at any of these i doubt we'd have lost tbh.
How we walked away without a point is obvious, we again played ***** defenders and failed to stop the other team from banging a couple past us like everyone else in the league has done.
FROM THE POSH WEBSITE: Peterborough United clung on for three vital points from a tense fixture against Barnsley with skipper Tommy Rowe popping up with the winner four minutes from time at London Road. Dwight Gayle was denied by former Posh keeper Luke Steele inside the first three minutes as Lee Tomlin flicked the ball into his path with the home side making the most of the early running. Olejnik superbly tipped over a close-range effort from Craig Davies after Mark Little was caught out of position down the Posh right. Posh got their noses in front on 29 minutes and it was a crisp free-kick from Michael BOSTWICK, who celebrated the birth of his baby boy in style, firing past Steele. Joe Newell then went on a mazy run, which took out two defenders, but as he cut inside the centre back, he saw his shot blocked. Steele then denied Newell whose low right-foot effort from 20-yards skidded along the floor. On 37 minutes, Posh wanted a spot-kick as Newell was barged over in the box, but referee Darren Drysdale waved away the protests. Steele then denied Tomlin from long-range, the striker's swerving effort grabbed at the second attempt by the inspired custodian. On 44 minutes, a free-kick from Tom Kennedy took a nasty deflection, but somehow goalkeeper Olejnik was able to keep the effort out. Boyd saw an effort go well wide on 51 minutes after a throw-in from the right. Olejnik produced a fine stop to deny Dagnall on 63 minutes as he waltzed through the Posh defence, who were tiring under the pressure. Dagnall then shaved the outside of the post with a curler from 30-yards as Posh clung on. Dawson was next to try his luck, but his 20-yarder went just past the post. Danny Swanson replaced Newell on 75 minutes. Barnsley got themselves level in controversial fashion on 77 minutes as Harewood's strike was touched home in the six-yard box by Dagnall, who appeared to touch the ball from an offside position. After a long consultation between the referee and the assistant referee, Mr Drysdale gave the goal. However, on 86 minutes, Posh got themselves back in front, completely against the run of play as skipper Tommy ROWE skipped inside two challenges and fired low past Steele and into the back of the net. The referee angered the Posh fans when he ignored an injury to Brisley and allowed Barnsley to play on and then win a free-kick to the annoyance of the Posh faithful. Final Score: Posh 2-1 Barnsley
Dont our fans always get behind the team more like this in away matches, and dont the team respond with more wins. Ohh no I forgot, they dont do they!! Theres only so much that loyal fans will take and its getting harder to cheer for them when we are bottom like this and heading nowhere but down.
