... and until the team learns to scrap and battle against clogging teams like Scunny then we'll do exactly what we did last year....nowt !

Started well - Hayes battled well for the goal but just like Satdi - mistake from Colgan for the penalty - miskicked out of his hands to a scunny player - resulting move ended with Carbon making a rash challenge to bring their player down. After that for the rest of the 1st half we panicked and I thought we were lucky to get to half time.

2nd half quiet for 10-15 mins then Nardiello realised he was playing a real game, stopped pointing at other players and holding his arms out in a "I used to play for Man U me" style and started playing - we must have had at least 4-5 really good chances, Nads and Hayes going close but no better chance that when great play from hayes put Shuker through, he rounded the keeper and then with the goal at his mercy scuffed the shot and it trickled towards the net only to be cleared by a defender. As per usual our lack of finishing cost us and a long ball out of defence caught out Austin and the ball went over his head and their sub Taylor lashed a 15-20 yard shot into the top corner - great goal...

Even then we had 2-3 more chances to score - 2 headers cleared off the line - nothing would go for us.....

To sum up then - The team needs to be able to play this type of team before we'll make progress in this league - just like last season big briusing teams we can't play against...

Wont do a rating's thing but thought Hayes played ok, Defence still look shaky under pressure, can't see why Colgan is prefered to Flinders. McPhail played ok i thought tonight but the rest of midfield were poor, Nads can be some player, needs to put more than 15 mins work in though..We still needs a midfield ballwinner IMO - and a left back cause ozzie ain't one...

On Radio on way home Ritchie on Radio saying he was happy with the effort but not the result - remember Andy - we lost, that's lost.....not won - lost.

I'm getting the hang of this

Give a penalty away you track the move back until you can blame it on Colgan!

Sorry, I agree with Kirkby on this one. It doesn't take much tracking the move back - Colgan mis-kicks straight to a scunny player this side of the half way line - scunny player lumps it back up, another runs on, gets tripped - penalty. No other reds player involved. That sounds like Colgan's mistake to me.

I think Carbon scything a player down suggests it was Carbons fault

    Exactly

From where I was sat, Carbon scythed him down. As much as I'd like to blame Colgan :)pff ) it was all Carbons doing.

    McPhail my MOTM tonight.

I take your point, but if colgan had not mis-kicked it straight to a scunny player from his hands with the whole pitch to aim for Carbon would not hev been in a position to pull the player down.

Same situation on Saturday - if Colgan had not jumped and missed like a fairy the ball would not have fallen to a Swindon player to take a pop and Robbie would have been playing tonight. Are you saying that that penalty was in no way Colgan's fault either?

    RE: Exactly

I'm not saying Carbon wasn't at fault - what I said was if it wasn't such a poor kick that never made the half way line putting us under immediate and needless pressure then there wouldn't even have been a challenge from Colgan..

    If, if, if, if

OK I get it - every penalty will be attributed to Colgan.

Seemed to think the cross that led to them getting the penalty on Saturday came from a free kick, so had that free kick not been given away we wouldn't have given away the penalty!

Oh no, I forgot Colgan is the current scapegoat for everything!

don't really think that's what he's trying to say but it's all about opinions - IMHO Colgan was at fault on Sat for the pen and also tonight, he tried to flap at crosses 2-3 times tonight and again IMHO the defence don't trust him...

I see where you're going with this one - Everyone else is culpable and accountable for their mistakes but we'll turn a blind eye to Colgan's.

Colgan is the current scapegoat because he keeps making mistakes - end of. They didn't cost us on Saturday, but one of them did tonight, and, for my money he should not be in the side because I can't trust him not to keep making mistakes.

OK - goalkeepers mistakes stand out more than other players - but that's just the way it goes - it's the same for all keepers. Scott Flinders gives me more confidence and I trust him to make less mistakes that cost us points. That's my opinion.

No, I'm not saying we turn a blind eye to Colgan's mistakes...what I'm saying is that people are doing the opposite and turning a blind eye to others mistakes and tracking it back to a mistake from Colgan.

I recall last season Colgan coming in for criticism whenever he made an error....in came Scarsella, let a shot through his legs but everyone got behind the lad.

    That's what I'm getting at.

Sorry but if a player brings down an opposing player in the area then the blame lies squarely with the player that made the foul

I think with Colgan it is a case of fans perception. I agree he seems to receive the critisism that his mistakes warrant even if Flinders or Scarsella wouldn't, but that is probably because we can see that Colgan has been round the block and is not going to be better than he currently is - he will always make those mistakes.

With Flinders we can see a genuine talent who is no worse than Colgan, may be much better, and deserves the chance. Of the 2 players, I trust Flinders more. Personal opinion I know, but it's my opinion and I stand by it.
