Just in from the match

Despite us having a reputation for it, this was the first time this season I've seen us play for the draw and it worked. Teymourian and De Silva squandered good chances, with the latter doing his usual trick a few times of thinking he has loads of time on the ball when he hasn't.

Steele stopped some good shots but struggled with the wind when kicking in the first half, despite constant pass backs for him to kick.

Macken looked jaded, again, and not willing to put in that extra sprint for a lost cause. Ode was brought on too late and JCR was as per usual followed by three defenders to the corner flag. Defence looked ok and had to deal with a lot of high crosses. Wing backs both put in some crunching tackles and I think it's fair to say this is about as dirty as we get, but at least we were fighting for it (although at times they were fighting each other almost!). The players all came over at the end and of course, we're still in with a shout.

Ref was pretty pants both ways and I personally think we had a clear penalty for hand ball turned down, with the ref on the spot and immediately waving play on , I just hope he had a better view than me.

Hammill wasn't as he has been recently, mind, we weren't following Mondays tactict of passing every ball to him! Moore and Foster were strong(with the odd mistake) and the former nearly knocked out an attacker while shielding the ball out for a goal kick, as he fall stupidly and smashed off the pitch at speed!

what do you mean "he fell stupidly at high speed off the pitch"? what happened?

 

Moore was shielding the ball, the Reading lad was trying to get a foot round him on the outside. Darren stood firm, then the Reading player shot off at high speed, but I think he fell in such a way as to attract a penalty, which made it worse for himself. He skidded off on the grass, over the narrow boundary material and into a photographer. He was down and out for a while but as he was off the pitch, the ref played on with the goal kick. Darren just outmuscled him and fairly won the challenge.
