There is the M6 toll nearby

    no tolls on this route

if you go on the M1 - A/M42 - old M6 route, you don't pass any tolls. The M42 leads onto two M6's, the old M6 motorway and the new M6 toll road. When you are travelling down the M42 it will advertise for the M6 toll first, ignore that and stay on the M42 a little longer until it advertises for the M6 north. The road splits into 4 lanes, so stay left for the M6. Get off at junction 9 and the ground is right at the side of the motorway.

    but v long way round???

A38 not usually a problem on Saturdays. Then A5 West and after that just follow A461 ring road towards Walsall. Don't go into town centre, follow signs ring rd/ for Wednesbury. Ground just by J 9 of M6. Should take about 1 hour 40 unless there are delays/ roadworks.
