Wile at Plymouth, wouldn't expect a young lad of his age to have done that, older pros who have made a few bob and been about a bit I could understand and expect to do so, but a young man who'd not be on much any way doing the best by the club shocked me a bit, we seem to have added a decent footballer and a decent man to the squad today lads.

Gave good interviews to both Radio Sheffield and Barnsley Player. Having watched a few clips of him on Argyle Player and youtube he looks to have a decent engine and a nice left peg on him. I look forward to seeing him and the rest of the lads in August.

Whilst our squad went 9 months without pay most of the squad left in the summer that year with 2/3 remaining, Hourihane joined us in the July from Ipswich (Whilst knowing he wouldn't be paid) and we were taken over in October, he'd probably have first been paid in November so he only went unpaid for 6 months. Your point still stands but just thought i'd point it out

    I'm confused
How did you afford buy a player when you couldn't afford to pay his wages and if he was free how come Ipswich had a sell on ? Something don't add up there

I believe Ipswich let him leave because they didn't want him, but he was still in contract (on youth terms).

Hourihane came to Argyle to get first team football in light of a Roy Keane-less Ipswich not wanting him. He arrived when you could count the professionals around him on two hands.

Argyle were desperate for players at this stage. It seems releasing an unknown player they didn't want on on free involved agreeing to entitle Ipswich a 20% sell on fee. Strange in hindsight. It's the type of thing I do on Football Manager that I didn't realise happened in real life - get rid of your youth team when they are not good enough with as close to 50% of the next sale clause as you can get.

So Hourihane from the day we signed him (summer) until October was not getting paid by Argyle, just racking up money owed as he played his games.

Apparently since the fee agreed was £200k, we have had to pay Ipswich £40,000. Of the remaining £160,000, £80,000 has been put into paying the football creditors (as is mandatory post-admin) and the club is left with £80,000 to do as it wishes.
