he was 13 he had hip Dysplatia and could walk no more, his quality of life had gone...he had the beginnings of incontinence too..I had to let him go. He was a wonderful friend always and I know I did the humane thing..but my heart aches now so bad...no matter how I know my decision was the best for him I still feel wretched.

My thoughts are with you. It's a dreadful, dreadful time to endure.
Life seems empty without your best pal, doesn't it.

Condolences mate. Just like losing a member of the family. Its awful with any pet, but a dog is always our best friend

I always ask myself why do we put ourselves through it all as hopefully we will outlive our pets

But it all comes down to love.

Chin up bud and the pain will ease

So sorry to hear that - we had to do the same thing last year. It's heartbreaking.

    Oh Barry, I'm so sorry

Cazi sent this message to Laura a while back, when we had to have our dog put down. It helped her (as well as helping Kev & I), I hope it brings you some comfort too.
Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.
All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

It's a horrible thing to do, Baz, but it's for the best

My heart goes out to you. I know when I had to make that decision I felt as tho my heart had been wrenched out of my body. Even tho' I have Amber, I still miss ar Peps even now and that was 5 years ago

Really sad for you. Know how it feels. Just think of the joy he brought. And how happy you made him. I am sure he had a great life.

    I'd forgotten about that

Someone I know pointed me in the direction of that when I had ar Peps PTS. Just re-reading it brought a lump to my throat.

Very sorry to hear your sad news. It takes courage to make the decision you have just made, but you have done the right thing by your friend.

Sorry to hear that. Know how awful that feels, but it is the right thing. When my mum put her dog down, she had an artist do a charcoal print from a photo. Makes me smile every time I walk past it. Chin up.

It's bloody awful watching your dog suffer

Sorry to hear about that DT.

Our last dog suffered from exactly the same thing and having him put to sleep was the hardest decision i've ever made. It's a terrible condition, our Tyson just dragged his back end about in the end.

    Sorry to hear that, mate

I know I'm going to have to reach the same decision soon with one of my cats and I hate to even think about it.
