If you want to see the TDF in Barnsley, and want to park nearby, looks like the farmers have got a closed shop ..... there are no parking, you'll be towed notices on all the main roads, and the Penistone to Thurleston was traffic coned ... must have cost someone a fortune on cones/overtime ... WTF are the local council expecting? Today I drove to my company car park in Leeds - adjacent to the rail station, so 1/4 mile from the race start ... but tomorrow I can't legally park on a road less than 5 miles away ..... Surely the council have missed a trick here - If I was to pay for parking, I'd rather hand my £££ to the council, at least it'll go to some community use, why didn't they park/ride or sommat ... I strongly object to giving £££s to the land owning Penistone farmers ..... I'm defo off to Sheffield tomorrow ??????
Re: Just rode to Flouch - traffic restrictions in place/coned from penistone bridge? You can park in the School for a fiver.
Re: Just rode to Flouch - traffic restrictions in place/coned from penistone bridge? The Golden **** HD4 6UD, free parking 10 mins walk to route, lovely countryside, beer festival £1.40 half pint, all Yorkshire beers, live music from an up and coming band after race, scarecrow trail for kids, really good food, BBQ, nice pub....even tho I say it myself!
Re: Just rode to Flouch - traffic restrictions in place/coned from penistone bridge? I've just done the same ....drove through Penistone and Millhouse Green, then I went up through Carlecoates,my plan is to park up by Dunford Bridge.I noticed one of the farmers has got parking £10,there were quite a few people parked at the side of the road obviously staying the night. I didn't notice too many no parking signs at the side of the road,so we will see
Re: Just rode to Flouch - traffic restrictions in place/coned from penistone bridge? Be careful; I live at Thurlstone and word is they're going to be very keen with the towing away/fines etc....
Re: Just rode to Flouch - traffic restrictions in place/coned from penistone bridge? I'd be surprised if it is farmers as they have no legal control over people parking on the road/grass verges. Similar in Leeds but council controlled restrictions. Get to Holme Moss. Take the car, Park fairly nearby and cycle. Road closures at Holme Moss within 2 hours of race if you're on a bike. Maybe 100,000 expected on the Hill.
Council have applied parking restrictions, farmers have cut their grass and opened as £10 car parks. PGS is £5 but my house is as near 5 miles from flouch
Re: Just rode to Flouch - traffic restrictions in place/coned from penistone bridge? They're expecting 60,000 people coming through Penistone and are operating a strict one way system. They are determined to keep traffic flowing at all times, hence the cones are to stop anyone holding the traffic up by trying to park. There are loads of fields being used as car parking for the day, so there should be plenty of room. My worry is how far we're going to have to wander from the Langsett hub so that we can get placed somewhere where the kids will see the actual race, for the few seconds that it'll come whizzing past us.
Just rode to Flouch - traffic restrictions in place/coned from penistone brid... We are cycling to langsett tomorrow so will give you a shout
Re: Just rode to Flouch - traffic restrictions in place/coned from penistone brid... We're heading up there at 10ish, as we have tickets for the hub. I think there's plenty going on for the kids to fleece us.
