Does anyone know of one who doesn't toss it off for most of the day?

After working with 2 councils over the last 8 years I have now met 1 that I believe works hard. But he's relatively new and from the private sector, we're actually waiting for him to be beaten down by bureaucracy.

Under promise, under deliver and then blame a different department for holding things up.

I've a mate with a decent job in a certain department who was nearly sacked when it was discovered that for the past two years he'd been spending most afternoons in the pub.

Also a regular, if not prolific, contributor to this board once admitted to passing some days at work in the council offices without doing a single thing.

    Boo council workers! Boo!

On the other hand I know some council workers who are dedicated, work hard, and never get chance to go missing in the pub, even if they could afford it.

I know coppers who are dedicated to serving their country and the safety of its citizens, despite the fact that we know there are those who don't care a toss.

There are good dedicated doctors, teachers, civil servants, nurses, builders, lecturers, plumbers etc, and there are those who shame the profession they are in.

Every profession has it's rogue element, who grab the headlines and cause public concern - the failure there is to weed them out and tell them to **** off somewhere else, whilst the decent among them have to suffer.

I think in the case of BMBC......

.....your hard-working individuals are in the minority.

    with the exception of teachers...

would agree with you re. the manual workers and admin staff but i think the scenario is the other way round for education...
most teachers and support staff in schools (BMBC employees) are incredibly hard working and dedicated to their jobs. They also put more than enough hours in extra during term time to fully deserve the nice holidays...

    If that is true

Then why is there not a secondary school in Barnsley that performs near the national average?

Not having a dig, just curious like!

This thread is ace and probably my favourite ever.......

Complain bitterly and generalise about a set of workers we don't actually know or care about for being idle Barstewards.

I am sure most contributors to this board during the afternoon are posting on company time/money/systems etc. Incl my good self, IOWT et al

    Oooohh the irony

Who are we moaning abart tomorrow? I reckon we should moan at Firemen for playing pool all day and when they work all they do is save kittens from trees for 30K+ a year.

    PS I hate council workers

Don't forget how the firemen sneakily allow the public to go on thinking they have a dangerous job.

    The shitbags.

I simply cannot accept that is the case

And they use up loads of water

Interestingly, 60% of all the Fire Engines you see out on the road are crewed by part time firefighters
