On BT Sport, they drew with one of my old clubs Salisbury City but it was not enough because Hereford sent them down by winning their match. Remember when we used to play Chester in the Fourth Division and we often struggled to beat them. They had one season where all five forward players scored 20 goals. Now they are down among the dregs in lower non league So, bit of perspective. Going down to L1 isn't THAT bad. PS I used to follow Salisbury in the 1970s when I lived there and I remember George Best playing against them in a pre-season friendly for Bournemouth. If you think Paddy McCourt looks a bit "disinterested" on the football pitch you should have seen Best that night!
I was working in Chester in 1996'ish. I went to see them playing Swansea I think in the fourth division, how times have changed! I actually think David Flitcroft played in that game for Chester - talk about weird co-incidences?!? I also remember playing the likes of Grimsby and Stockport County in tier 2 of English football not that long ago, both teams are no longer in the football league, and we regularly lost to Port Vale in the same division too!!!
Oh yes, there are dozens of teams WELL below us in the pyramid who we used to lose to on a regular basis. It's part of the circle of life. Going down isn't easy but worse things can happen. Losing the club altogether would be worse. The BT cameras have one in the Chester dressing room and they are all sitting there like they are waiting for their turn to be shot. I hope it was a similar scene in our dressing room for some time after the match. Somehow I suspect it may not have been though
