After my daughter told me that she does not want to go to any more games because she was scared after tuesday's game.
I would like to contact your club about the action taken by many of your fans on Tuesday 27th October 2009. My 9 year old daughter and I witnessed some appalling behavior by many of your fans near to the end of the game against our side Barnsley F.C. The actions of the fans upset my daughter that much that she says she does not want to go to another football game because it scared her that much. The incident in question was at the end when the police lined up in front of your fans to stop any pitch invasion or something similar, as they were lining up a barrage of bottles and other items were being thrown towards them and towards our fans. I had to leave the ground immediately with my daughter as she was crying.
I hope your club is very happy at the behavior of your fans, unlike our club when the 3 idiots that ran onto the pitch were held by our supporters until the police arrived.
I will also contact the press regarding this issue as I have lost my best friend sitting next to me in all future games.

Sorry to hear about your daughter being scared mate. It shouldnt happen at whats meant to be a sporting/entertainment event.

    BUT

This kind of thing happens unfortunately and you can never rule it out at big games and its sometimes our own fans that are in the wrong.

I know these things happen, but my daughter was a very shy girl when she was younger, but for the last couple of years watching football has really brought her out of her shell. I hope that she does not go back to being the little girl she once was. And because of my working hours I cherished the times we spent together like any parent would.

So you blame Manchester United for how their fans behaved at our ground?

Yes thats how football works. If the fans of a certain club cause trouble then the club takes the blame because the supporters are representing the club. That is why barnsley take the blame for the ******* running onto the pitch, why west ham and millwall took the blame for their fans etc.

I'd have said it was the fault of the fans who misbehaved, then our fault for not being able to control them with the measures in place we had and lastly the fault of Man Utd FC who won't have had anything to do with it. If our fans didn't behave at an away match i'd be annoyed if our club got blamed for it.

sorry to hear about your incident.
It is mostly the fans to blame, but you are right to make your feelings know to MUFC - as there are certain things which they can do...

    - they can ask fans for information regarding the incident (to aid the police)
    - they can denounce such mindless acts etc.

The fight against racism started with the clubs, with banners, leaflets and various other ads.
Clubs could conduct other campaigns for 'fight against yobism'

I had a similar experience when i was youth at the Everton cup game proper **** myself large crowd getting crushed on the ponti plucked up the courage to go to next home game by going in the brewery stand different enviroment. Take your daughter in the west stand or even ponti away from the away fans good luck with it.</p>

I hope everything sorts itself out for you. I have a great deal of sympathy for your predicament.
I still cannot understand why BFC decided to put the ''Family Stand' over towards the 'Away' end.
Really bad planning in my opinion, but we are stuck with it now, God knows what the answer could be to resolve this.
I spend ages reasoning with the kids I teach about who their Club is and where their culture lies.
In parts, I am fairly successful, but it's just awful to see so many kids wanting to join the 'glory' trail.
I have had to endure this when both Arsenal and Chelsea were the top teams.
I used to take the children to look out of the windows at Grove St and make them see Oakwell and I would say "That's your team, that's your culture".
They hadn't a clue about Chelsea or Man Utd except they 'won things!'
I love to see these same kids now, 7 years later, going to the match they seem a metre higher, grown up and now it's "Eyop Miss, YoooooReds!..."
The thought that the Man Utd fans who committed the carnage could actually get away with is totally scandalous.
    YoooooReds!

Yeh, why did they put the Family Stand over there?

Bit intimidating for young kids near the away end and a long walk for little legs for most?

Consequently, the Ponty is more like a Family Stand these days, that's why there's hardly any atmosphere. I would like to see a minimum age in the Ponty, singing & swearing encouraged / allowed, anyone that don't like it / too young re-located FOC to a seat of their choice elsewhere.

Oakwell is not intimidating for the opposotion anymore and this is one of the reasons why.

It would also allow the traditional Pony Ender to feel more comfortable on match days without watching your P's & Q's too closely for the kids & grannies that proliferate.

RE: Yeh, why did they put the Family Stand over there?

I use to watch from the Ponty end before taking my daughter, but like is said the language was a little too harsh sometimes, which can be expected. I would never tell fans to watch their language in the Ponty end as I use to use the same. I sit in the family stand because it is for families and believing it was the best place for us to sit together. Although we have been to some away games we have never performed like those animals and I can say that I believe MOST of the fans on here aven't either.

stop taking crap!!! how is it our fault???? Im a safety steward and there were 20k fans there, we and the police get out numbered at ever game, you cant go into the crowd to stop incidents like that, not unless its 1 on 1, your taking out of your back-side mate, Man Utd have to take responsibility for their fans, Barnsley FC have now got fined for the 3 fans who ran on the field, the fans are banned for life by the FA too. But the club has the responsibility for this (we could bring 6 foot fencing back if you like???)

Clubs alays have to take responsibility for their fans, Liverpool did after Hysel stadium!!!!
Millwall and West ham did for theirs, so why shouldnt Man Utd? Had this been a Champions League game at their ground and say, Roma fans did it.....Man Utd would persue it all the way and push UEFA to take Roma accountable!!

My job at Oakwell is to be a public service figure, to help people and be customer service orientated... not a nightclub bouncer who wades in

Chester, thats what should be done, Manchester United should put out a statement saying that they apologise for any conduct not befitting behavour at a football game. They should also say that any fan found to have taken part in the incidents should be banned. But will we hear anything like it............?
