We have a better option.......... one of the trialists perhaps!

There's no doubt in my mind that Ward was gamble. SD has gambled on to many strikers in the past, and needs to get someone with a proven track record e.g. Cureton.

Although Ward has started well this year, his CV shows that he hasn't scored regularly in previous seasons mainly due to injury. Therefore £400k is alot of money to gamble on such a player. Remeber he is playing in the 4th division and we brought Cureton in as cover for Hume, so do not necessarily need another quick/small striker. I feel priority should be a targetman as Ferenczi hasn't been replaced and KO isn't upto the job.

    Its certainly plausable

No doubt other options we may have would affect how much we were prepared to pay.

    Let's see what developes

    No, not at all

Who offers money for a player and sits down with them to discuss personal terms if they don't actually want him? Even we're not that incompetent. At least I hope not.

RE: Could he have failed a medical??

it's possible-and if so the "not agreeing terms" could be a smokescreen so as not to put off other clubs-particularly the one that bought the dressing room scanner that they used on Muller's knee :D

    Dont be daft

Its an enormously dynamic market where things change by the minute with agents constantly on the phone even when deals are practically signed (nardiello for example).

I'm not saying that has happened but if Ward suddenly demanded more money at the negotiating table than say another comparable player was after then it would be sure to change things.

I know it's probably way off the mark but

the statement was because we couldn't agree terms

So I'm assuming that the reason we didn't sign him is because he wanted more money than the club thought he was worth, and maybe that would have affected the whole pay structure at the club.

Simon Says on the official site

That we offered him a good deal for an unproven league 4 striker but not at the level of our proven championsip strikers
There were incentives for him to get to that level though if he demonstrated he was good enough
There was too big a gap between Wards demands and what we were prepared to offer

All sounds perfectly reasonable from both sides - he thinks he can get more without proving himself - just better hope he doesnt injure himself or his form fall off second half of the season
We are prepared to take a chance on him but not pay him as much as proven players

Just hope his agent hasnt screwed him - Whats Werling doing these days - do you think he regrets not signing on our original terms

    Ooops

I got my typing crossed between proven championship strikers and our proven championship players
sorry Davey said players (and referred to the likes of JCR) not strikers
Did say Kayode can go if anyone wants him
