Have to say I thought it was astonishingly frank. I absolutely appreciate the criticism that he failed to name names, but part of me understands Armstrong's point that it is up to individuals own conscience to confess. I do accept the irony in that statement as left to his own devices he would still not have come clean.

But in terms of himself I thought he was brutally honest and laid himself bare. I think it is true that he's more sorry he got caught rather than for cheating, but I don't think he really tried to pretend otherwise. He was cheating in an era when many others were and he believed that was the only way he could win. It doesn't make it right or redeem him but it also means he shouldn't be the fall guy. If he is it will allow cycling's problems to be swept under the carpet.

I never liked Armstrong. Always thought he was a humourless, arrogant bully. But in fairness to him he knows this and didn't try and pretend otherwise or make excuses for his behaviour.

Ultimately this isn't about taking drugs. It's about how he dealt with accusations. I don't think he had a choice once he decided never to admit to it. He had to aggressively.pursue those that accused him to perpetuate the lie. But its that self serving attitude which exposes his flaws more than the taking of drugs.

One final point, as a new parent I was genuinely moved by his description of the unconditional love of his children upon his admission. My advice Lance, you have your health and your family, and they will enrich you far more than any money or competition ever will. Just enjoy that.

Of course he was honest and frank. He has been found out and the only possible attempt at damage limitation for him right now is to claim to be this honest frank man who is ever so sorry for what he has done. If he had come out in an interview and refused to answer questions any possible hope of a media career or keeping the lifestyle he is accustomed to would have gone out of the window. So he is now begging and putting on a big 'honest' act to try to win back peoples trust and adoration. In reality he is nothing but a cheater who has stolen millions of pounds and lied about it for years. Not that honest or frank really.
