Re: Couldn't disagree with you more Agree on Daniel Mays but the storyline was nonsense. I thought it was going to redeem itself slightly with 5 minutes to go with the unhappy ending most of those involved deserved but then it blew that. I wish they had the balls to write something where you can sympathize with someone coming out of prison without resorting to them being innocent. And the probation officer character and service was so unbelievable and I couldn't feel any empathy for them. Expected much more too
Re: Couldn't disagree with you more There were parts of the story that I din't think rang true, but then again I've never had any dealings with the parole board. Daniel Mays portrayal of an angry, confused young man coming up against authority was brilliant. For all we knew he'd brutally strangled his girlfriend, he constantly lost his temper, he lied to everyone, he was a total arse, yet we liked him, we could sympathise with him. That's almost impossible to do, but he did it superbly. For me that was the show.
Re: Couldn't disagree with you more Just thought they ruined that performance by anchoring it in a contrived clumsy storyline. I kept thinking as if every two minutes by episode three. My sister-in-laws a probation officer so maybe I was focusing too much on that part though.
Re: Couldn't disagree with you more If we all liked same stuff it'd be a boring world. Maybe I just liked it 'cos I fancy Anna Friel.
Re: Couldn't disagree with you more Yeah, but they'd even tried to make her look dowdy! On a similar tv based note I'm just having my mind blown away by the film Hunger in film 4.
Re: Couldn't disagree with you more I've got it recorded. Haven't round to watching it yet as, well, I'm a bit scared of it to be honest. I can imagine it'll be harrowing and I haven't felt in the mood to be harrowed.
Re: Couldn't disagree with you more Absolutely the mist harrowing thing I've seen in years but its worth it for a one take 20 minute scene between a priest and bobby sands. I'd have given them both Oscars
Re: Couldn't disagree with you more Agreed there, but I was rather disappointed at the ending, and I just thought the whole bit about the parole officer breaking one rule after another just didn't ring true. I thought his mate (the one he was playing pool with) had done it. Don't understand, if the father had done it, why he'd agree to the Daniel Mays character being allowed to move back into the area. Infact even a drama showing what life is like for someone released on parole, when they are not innocent, would be interesting.
