I have no problem with the club enforcing a booze ban. In fact, I think it's a good idea. I've no problem with them disciplining Kay if he has fallen foul of the regulations the club have imposed. The problem as I see it is that the club decided to announce Kay’s indiscretions on the official web site. Can you imagine this happening at a club like Manchester United or Chelsea? Would Alex Ferguson or José Mourinho deal with such a situation in any other way than in house? How would you feel if the company you worked for published your misdemeanours on their website for all your customers or clients to read?

It has been suggested that this information was released to curtail speculation. That sounded like cobblers to me at the time and it has certainly proved so. We’ve already had people on here alleging that Kay has turned up for training drunk and that he may be in trouble with the police for drink driving. If anything speculation has increased with the club’s announcement.

It’s rank bad management in my opinion.

We all know he's not going to be offered another contract, so who cares. At least it will warn the rest of the squad that they will be exposed if they do the same.

    If that's the case

We've lost a very good player in my opinion.

    Thing is....

Yes if he doesn't stay because of the things going off, we would have lost a good player, and one that certainly can do a job on his day.

However, if say for example he was a "bad egg" scenario, then you seriously have to look at the team as a whole and make sure the rest are not influenced by others...

Thing I always say on here is, we don't know the full facts, so we can speculate all we want, but lets face it, the club didn't have to say jack **** about it, but some "arsehole" leaked to a paper, so if the club didn't respond, it would have also been a **** for not doing so.

We aren't in a position other than to speculate what happened, but leave the club to do what they need to do.

We survived, thats all I care about!

I agree. I don't want him to go but it's inevitable as he's showing no respect for the manager.

    Hold on, hold on

There's plenty of examples where things have gone on at big clubs, Craig Bellamy's golf and Joey Barton's boxing spring to mind, and due to media leaks of the incidents, the clubs concerned have had to act openly. No different really. It's just a crying shame all this - for him and for the team.

Looks like a personal thing, yes bad form regards drinking but I don't think they like each other. There are others in the club who drink as much but don't seem to get punished, Heggy & Reid for example. Been told that Davey is arrogant so and so, looks to me that he likes the odd lager and take away..would he been deemed as obese?

I don't think that Simon Davey is arrogant. He is just a man who has a lot of self belief and determination. It's a pity that this is often misconstrued by some as arrogance.

Whenever I have met and spoke to him, he has always been pleasant and courteous, helpful and friendly.

He has done a magnificent job against all the odds and the players have clearly responded to him and the coaching methods he and his team introduced, (with the exception of Kay)

I think the future looks good.

I hope that he can salvage something from the Kay debacle, but it is clear that there is no love lost between the two.

    Ok So........

Craig Bellamy fights a team mate and stays in the team. Joey Barton stubs a cig in a team mates eye and beats up another team mate and is still at his club. Could go as far back as Tony Adams that spent time in the slammer and got stood by, by his club. Our Ant drinks and his happens.

    RE: Ok So........

Is it true that the drinking ban (sorry, the ban on being in a pub) was lifted after the last game anyway? If so is it any coincidence that the club left it till after we were safe to bring in any punishment for something done previously?

What could be personal about the issue?

Kay has allegedly, constantly, broken the rules on drinking. I'm sure if the others had been found to be breaking the rules the Club would act on it. Ex City Tyke said the Club has a 72 hour ban before matches. So the others Heck, Read et al may have been drinking at permitted times.

If the Club do let Kay go I think it will be because they have much better players lined up.

The ban includes reserve games doesnt it? Aren't they on wednesday's? So that means no going into a pub except saturday nights. Bit harsh isnt it, what's wrong with an evening with your wife at the local pub? Nice meal and glass of orange juice, by my understanding that would be breaking the clubs rule.

That must depend on if a player is expected to be playing for the Reserves.

All this fuss being made about a player who's not that good.

If he wasn't a local lad I don't think anyone would give a monkeys.

What annoys me, isnt that he's been punished, its that for some reason the club have decided to make it all very public and give just enough information to make him look as guilty as hell but hold back on exactly what he has done.

You yourself said that it could mean he's an alcoholic, always drunk, driving to work drunk etc while at the other end of the scale he might just enjoy a quiet night at his local with his wife drinking orange juice.

Thats why I have a problem with it. Oh that and when did it happen and why only now has he been dropped for it?

No, I did not say he was driving to work drunk.

There was a post which implied Kay had been arriving for training under the influence.

Someone also posted that he turned up for training on Tuesday drunk.

My post said that if it was true that he had been driving to training under the influence there could be drink drive issues ,which I think is fair comment.

Why make so much fuss about about the issue Kay broke the rules, not Davey or Shepard.

Kay knew the rules and stuck two fingers up to Davey, the Club and the Fans.
