Always been a supporter of Kay Good footballer - Championship quality His dad (Rolly) shot me in the back when we were kids - not jokeing But........... I am often told by friends and family that he has been on a bender for the last few weeks or months. Thurnscoe, Darfield, Wombwell is where he is being seen. He told my brother at a football function a few weeks back that he would probably be leaving the club at the end of the season He thought he wasn't wanted by Davey ( after Cardiff I'm not surprised) But get Kay on the right track and there is a good footballer here There are others at the WELL that are as bad or even worse than Kay when it comes to drinking I don't think that Davey knows this but there are guys working at the club or helping out at the club that know who these are
May be there are a couple more who have been breaking the booze ban but they have had the intelligence to do it out of sight. I'm sure if any others had been seen breaking the ban we would have people posting that they had seen so and so in such and such a place.
Agreed
They can't let him off just because he's a Barnsley lad, but there's a good player there and surely, with the right handling, the club can manage it out of him and move him forward.
If we lose him because of this I'd be absolutely gutted. I'm not sticking up for the lad, he's done wrong (allegedly) but we have a valuable resource there, and a passionate one at that. It'd be a shame to throw it all away.

The thing is he could be one of the best defenders in the Championship We can't afford to lose such players. I don't care if he's boozing all the time - look at most of his performances this season. Of course, if he started playing bad, then it's a different matter. Yes, the club should discipline him, but by releasing a statement its pretty clear they don't want him.
If he wants to play for Barnsley he has to go a different way about showing it He's not good enough to be turning in drunk - if that is what has happened.

RE: If he wants to play for Barnsley he has to go a different way about showing it We let too many younger players leave because of problems simular to this. Its about managing them and encouraging them to grow up. Problem is many young people will go out on a night and have too much beer then have a problem the next morning. This instance is no different its just that Kay is in the spot light. Its poor man management if it can't be sorted
Kay had is chance to learn when he was dropped back in Jan after the Cardiff game. That was the chance to stand up and be counted.... To me, if these rumours are true then he's kissed goodbye to his Barnsley career. Full credit to Davey for standing ground on the matter. No player is bigger than the club.
'many young people' won't be getting paid as well as he is and won't ever dream of earning anything like he his doing. Although i agree with him being helped i think he is in a position where he must be far more responsible and with his undoubted talent he is a great danger of throwing it away
It's not hard to change your ways on that front, I doubt very much he's got a drinking problem which makes him dependent on it.
RE: If he wants to play for Barnsley he has to go a different way about showing it Not sure what's happened, but if the club/davey had made it clear he wasn't wanted next season, and wasn't getting a new contract he probably thought **** it. Why should I put all the effort it, for them to dump me anyway.
I think now is the time to sit down with him and sort it. Tell him he his wanted, will get his contract, but that if he doesn't sort himself out, this is his last chance. Could do him good to get the final warning.
Then again if this is another slur against him, to get the supporters on side for dumping him, then shame on the club.

He has got the talent and the opportunity that most of us on here dream of. I mean, years ago when there was no money in playing football for Barnsley, we would all have jumped at the chance of just one (just one) home game for the first team at Oakwell. Now, Anthony Kay is a Barnsley lad and a Barnsley fan and he should have more respect for the club than to go out boozing. Add to that fact that Kay is getting paid more than what most of us will earn at the height of our respective professions... it's difficult to turn this around and blame the club. All you can say is that we have very few defensive options - and Kay is still probably the best of what we do have - if his attitude was right, he was working hard looking after himself properly the manager would not have an issue with him. He has to take more responsibility.
Davey has given press statement that he's been omitted from squad to visit WBA because of seceral breaches of alcohol policy Well done Davey, if he's breached club rules several times, deserves all he gets. Roy Keane prevented 3 players travelling down to Oakwell just for turning up a few minutes late for bus. Strong management in both cases.
Sorry but I can't agree with the first comment you made. Whether he was told he was wanted next year or not, Anthony Kay is a pro footballer and gets paid a decent wage. He can piss is career up the wall from next season, but whilst he is paid for by Barnsley FC then he should act like a man rather than spitting the dummy out. He's a local lad so he should know what this club means to allot of people. If he wants to piss it up the wall then I hope he ends up at a League 2 club on 500 quid a week!
At his best, great - at his worst awful but if he cares so much then why keep bozzing in public. I am sure the management team will make the right deicsion and have the facts Nyatanga is loads better and hopefully we can get him on a season long loan Finally - If Kay does leave, what level of club will take him. Championship?, League 1?
One thing for certain if the club made the public announcement in regards to Kay's breach of rules and punishment in the hope that it would curtail the speculation, they were wrong! Folk will always wonder what REALLY went on.
especially when only half an explanation is given As from what you have posted the rule is and what the club have said in their statement there's every chance that Kay hasn't even been drinking, he may just have been in the pub drinking orange juice with his wife. Plus if the rule is that they can't drink within 72 hours of any fixture, first team or reserve then that means they can't drink pretty much at all can they? Hardly seems fair. 3 players arrested for alleged racially aggrevated assault, not a word said about it. 1 player caught in a pub and big announcement splashed all over the interweb. bizarre
