<div class="byline" id="ds-byline">By Simon Meeks</div><div class="ds-firstpara" id="ds-firstpara">IN FORM defender Antony Kay is eager to sign up for another campaign with Barnsley even if the club drop out of the Championship. </div><div class="va-bodytext" id="va-bodytext">"My contract is up at the end of the year, I've been all my life with Barnsley so I hope that I can stop," he said. The 24-year-old said that relegation would not change his mind either. "I just want to be part of Barnsley , I hope the chairman and manager will want me to stop. We'll see what happens," he stressed. Kay, a graduate of the Oakwell academy, fell out of favour after defeat at Cardiff in February, but has worked his way back to being a first choice centre back for manager Simon Davey. Following Lewin Nyatanga's departure back to Derby on Monday, Kay and club captain Paul Reid will play at the heart of the back four against Crystal Palace on Saturday. Kay is one of several players out of contract in the summer. Daniel Nardiello and Brian Howard are among the others. Barnsley will not <div id="ds-mpu"></div>begin talks until the relegation issue is resolved. Winger Kyel Reid's loan spell with Barnsley is scheduled until the end of the season. He has another year on his contract at Upton Park. West Ham moved closer to dropping out of the Premiership last night following their 4-1 defeat by Chelsea. Said Reid: "I think they are in a worse situation than we are at Barnsley. "I could be doubly relegated! I think Barnsley will stay up, West Ham needed a win on Saturday, didn't get it so I can't really see them staying up." He added: "We are now going into the last three matches and we want to pick up as many points as possible. We are going for nine from nine and we may have to do that because Leeds and Hull are not far behind us. "It is still very tight even though we have won the last two matches. We now have a very big game against Palace coming up and that is one we simply have to win. " </div>
His interview on Radio Sheff, as far as I can recall he said he wanted to stop irrespective of relo. He was settled in Barnsley and he wasn't "greedy" so didn't see a problem with agreeing a new contract.
Relo? hehe In da hood. Yep thats what I remember, seems odd that he has not signed a new contract on that basis. If I was him though or his agent I would definitely be holding out until the end of the season to put him in a stronger position.
Rubbish complete and utter pap. When he keeps it simple, as he's been told to, he's solid, distribution is excellent. its when he tries to play too much football in our own half when he comes unstuck. He's worth another contract if he can toe the line.
RE: Rubbish best defender we have at the moment , keep it simple . win the ball and give it someone who can play football please ant
If he continues to mature I think he could be a very good championship quality centre back. He would definitely be on my to keep list.
