Just looked at a list of all 72 FL clubs' player of the year, and noticed Kayode won the award at Colchester - succeeding David Perkins btw. Thing is, Odejayi being Odejayi, the lad hasn't scored since October! Easily pleased at Colchester, seemingly
He really was useless. He scored one important goal, then titted one up at Wembley. Shocking. Least Colchester are happy with that kind of player. Good luck to him.
Or perhaps he actually offered something to their team other than just goals this season. Like probably most other people on here, I've not seen Colchester play this season so can't really comment on who the fans chose as their player of the year!
Tbf to the big guy, I met him once and he was a lovely chap, very humble. And, again in his defence, it wasn't just that goal vs Chelsea, his performance that day was immense, he looked a top player. And we stayed in the capital after the semi final loss, and went to Vic Road where he again played like a star and scored (honestly, he did). I wouldn't ever want him back, but if it was a choice of Kayode or Frank Nouble...... and to end on a cheery note, Dangerous Dagnall has 2 year on his contract - 20 goal striker (in his Rochdale days). And Scott Wiseman also has another 2 years (quality full back, in his Rochdale days) UP THE TARN
I know we've got some less-than-good players here at the minute, but as a striker he had one job - to score goals. Which he didn't do while he was here. He did seem like a nice bloke though, better than some of the players nowerdays. And why we got Nouble back is a mystery. I shall not fret though, I'm sure Daggers will score 15+ next season!
Found myself chatting to a Cheltenham Town fan the other day. Said I was a Reds fans and commented on linked players like Grant McCann and Martin Devaney, whom he remembered. What I said, Kayode Odejayi, he said, "Who?" I said, "Yes! That's him!"
To be fair to the lad he had a good game against Chelsea and I thank him so much for that goal. I know no Barnsley fan will ever forget that goal and that game.
To be fair to him, I didn't think he was a terrible footballer by any means. He held the ball up well and put himself about. He just seemed to lack confidence, he seemed frightened to get in a good position in case he got a chance at goal, and when he was presented with a chance, he was like a rabbit in headlights. Average targetman, awful goalscorer. Had he produced a performance like the one against Chelsea week in week out, he'd have probably gone down as a legend, shame it was a one off. League one's definatly his level, and for me, he always did offer more than goals.
He's currently trending on Twitter for joining Rotherham United. So they are going to have two of our oldies up front. They must be paying him good whack if he's dropping down a league.
