Kay said on radio Sheff.that he was glad the conract was sorted out and himself and Ossie were looking forward to playing in the Championship, when asked about signing a one year deal he said he had been offered a two and a three year deal and it was his choice to sign a one year contract.
RE: Yes........why only one year when they are offered more.........story here.....find it ***** contract offered...so just take a 1 year deal, aim to prove themselves at a higher level in the hope that either someone comes in with a better offer for next season or we give them a better deal next season. Kay should just just be happy with anything he can get though.
I've been thinking about it Tina I think the players (Kay especially) know that the club isn't in a position to hand out higher wages. If they signed a 2 or 3 year deal they'd be committing at that wage for that length of time.
I'd like to think they are signing one year deals in the hope that we stablise, stay up, make a push season after next, and release funds for a higher wage for the players.
Still, it shows what a boy Reid is for committing, but you can't blame players for looking after their finances.
Particularly those who have only ever played for us.

That or huge wage cuts... ...owing to relegation clauses. So, take a year at top whack, and if we don't beat the drop, they can renegotiate or sod off. Makes sense to me.
RE: I've been thinking about it Tina Don't think the club can win,If they'ed been throwing three year contracts about like confetti they'ed be accused of throwing money away on players who might not hack it in a higher league. If it suits the club and more importantly the player so be it.
Sensible thoughts Harrow tyke I agree HT I threw the comment out to see what comments may/maynot come back They come as as a group Kay, Austin, Williams, always together having a laugh in training etc. My theory is this, I have no idea whether it is true but I truly do believe that the Club is trying to stabilize the finances under Shepherd/Cryne and one more year will see us ok. (I am taling out of my hat here!) if we can stabilize the finances and stay in the Championship then that will be a massive leap forward in our sustainability and progression as a club. Staying in the Championship is not enough as what is needed is consolidation in that League and a reasonable'familiarity' and 'comfortableness' in the Division for want of a better word. My feeling is this: We have a crucial year ahead. Promotion may have come too early and unexpectedly - as Ritchie himself has said. The Board must now consolidate and wconsider the fiscal priorities in a sensible and prudent maner For this we have Mr Shepherd and Mr Cryne The Club is in good hands. We may have to batter the hatches and hang in there next season but we are not known as 'Battling Barnsley' for nowt. "
We are guessing here...............but If its reight i.e. that one year deals are there to see how things work out for the club and the player involved in the first season in the Championship........then this seems logical And Shep has to be congratulated on holding out for such a deal
At the end of the day The money isn't there for BFC like it was on our last sojourn to the 2nd tier of English football. The money chucked at the Prem has filtered down a bit with the relegated sides and their parachute payments, so if we think we can compete money-wise with Palace, Birmingham, WBA etc, then we need a reality check.
We see it as fans - we want the best players possible cos that's what we want for our team, but in reality, so do 91 other clubs. Now, i'm a bit nervous at the apparent lack of transfer activity, but the club are slowly getting those that want to stay on board. The reasons for the length of contracts being signed, we as fans can only guess at.
I think on balance, it looks like we've got folk in charge who won't mortgage the future of the club. I don't like everything they do/say, but looking long term, at least I'm not fearful of Ben Bailey building on oakwell. ( Car park aside - one of the things I disagree with).
Err, so there.

RE: At the end of the day Ultimately, we only have to finish above three teams to achieve our objective of staying in the division. Plymouth, Luton, Southend and Colchester etc. are our yardstick. Colchester, I feel, are already doomed. Luton will find it tougher in their second year following promotion. We don't have to spend stupid money in order to just survive.
We could adopt the Warnock approach When he took over the Blunts were near the bottom of the league and broke So he brought in players that were not tested or near the end of there sell by date He then praised them highly (at every opportunity !!!) as players that would gain the club promotion It never worked of course but the Blunt fans I know always thought these players were great and would do the job for them i.e. they took the bait In effect he sold the club to the fans (have we anybody at the TARN that can do this???) This lasted a few seasons until last season when the directors of the blunts finally openned the cheque book But Warnock was there 5/6 years before this happened
RE: We are guessing here...............but Harrow Tyke in sensible post whilst calming Young Nudger down shocker.

RE: That or huge wage cuts... bit negative though that aint it,don,t fill folk with a lot of confidence.
