I recall Brendan Rogers Premier League start last year was very bad with his first win coming at the end of September. They didn't sack him and look where they are now. We have a young manager learning his trade and he needs the time as well as some of his players to develop. I wasn't there on Saturday because I was flying home from a cruise so I cannot comment on that game and/or team selection and tactics although I was dismayed to read that Pollitt had gone back injured.
Were they losing by the odd goal or two with players in their correct positions? Or were they conceeding 3s, 4s and 5s with guys out of position and better players out in the cold not getting a look in at all?
KEEP BLOODY CALM !!!! You having a laugh ? We look like conceding every time opposition attacks, no creativity in midfield players not a clue where they playing, players given a full game then dropped next game !! Never get consistency. As much as I like flitcroft, and yes I've met him and spent time with him, he's out of his depth this season, he'd got nothing to lose last season, everyone had written us off at Xmas so he and the players had the freedom to go for it.
Wednesday fans must rightly be laughing their arses off at us. Not so much the results, more the 'fickleness of their fans'. Still if we keep sacking managers were bound to get a good one soon. Right?
Never mind Pollitt. If we defend like we did, you'd need to brick the goal up to keep the opposition out. We went 4-4-2 against Watford. No problem with that. We played full backs, not wing backs - fine - it's 4-4-2 We played four central midfielders and no wide midfielders. No. Seriously. That's what we did. We were crucified down the flanks - Dawson and Mellis (our stand-in wide men) offered no cover for the full backs There was no creativity from out wide, everything we did was straight down the middle and entirely predictable. Watford looked shaky at the back and Scotland was like a loose bull amongst a non-too-physical Hornets' back line. We just couldn't get the ball to him often enough. Indeed our solitary goal came from a defensive gaffe. What happened was what most in the stands were predicting as soon as the team was read out. We were already chasing the game by the time anything was changed. It is not all doom-and-gloom, though, as I feel we have better depth of squad than at any time since we came up into this league. I think for a few teams, injuries, general fitness levels and suspensions will take their toll, whereas we will be able to overcome those hurdles better and finish the season strongly. However, Flicker needs to find a starting XI and system which makes us competitive before we're cut adrift. I've seen enough from the retained players last year and the acquisitions this, to have belief there's a decent Championship team amongst them. The question is whether Flitcroft can find the right formula before it's too late. I fear, on current form, he is looking in the wrong places and looking to the wrong personnel, particularly in the centre of the park.
