This might not be popular but..... When he first came and we had butterfield drinkwater and Vaz te upto Christmas we looked a half decent side and I thought we had made a good decision getting him in. Once we lost them and started signing lower league players he lost the plot and went into a downward spiral.... Had he been given the funds that Davey and Robins were given he might well have done a better job but as it was he had bitten off more than he could chew trying to keep us in the championship with the budget he had.
Most people didn't have an issue with his management, it was his ability to constantly slag the fans off that ****ed everyone off. I despise the man and really do hope he's sacked soon and doesn't get another job.
I can't claim to despise him but I'm not his biggest fan I thought he struggled with the pressure and vented it in the wrong way towards the fans at times which was never going to end well....
Butterfield was already here, drinkwater was a loan signing and vaz te had lost his way. I would say little of our budget was used there. Its what he did with the rest of the budget and his attitude that was his downfall. Like ive said in another thread too much is being made of keith hills importance to our football club. He is long gone, its about time we let it go.
How you could wish that upon someone who simply did not say what you wanted to hear is beyond my comprehension. You must be as wonderful to know as Mr Hill.
Keith Hill looked good when Keith Hill had a good team Keith hill looked **** when he lost his good players Keith hill was perceived as a knob when he lost said players and blamed the fans Keith hill was perceived as a knob because he is a knob Sent from my SM-G900F using Tapatalk
From his interview today... "yeah, they're a good side... they're the youngest in England, did you know that? did you? was only mentioned all the time on the TV midweek, every five minutes.. but yeah, they're a good side, top six budget, top six club.. I expect them to be pushing for the top two/playoffs, maybe not this season but next.. Johnno's a top manager, he's beaten me twice so I owe him.. I want to this time share a drink and a chicken wing after the game with three points though" Not verbatim, but still amused me. Also mentioned putting in a bid for John Stones.
Also liked what LJ said about the 5-0 thrashing last season.. "I'm not sure they took that game very seriously, especially considering the gear Keith was wearing that afternoon.."
He was his own worst enemy at Oakwell. I started off giving him the benefit pf the doubt and think I could see what he was trying to do, but every time he opened his mouth he just kept making things worse for himself, until eventually I reached the point where I had had enough. Arrogance is all well and good when you are getting the results, but we reached a point whereby we knew he had the rug pulled from underneath him when we lost our entire midfield and we would have sympathised with him had he not come out with the nonsense he was coming out with. 98% of the fans weren't booing him, but he couldn't seem to differentiate this and ended up alienating the fans who were actually behind him. The difference when Flicker took over was immense. He very quickly got the full support of the crowd, partly by increasing the tempo on the pitch and getting us to turn possession into attack much quicker, but also with his demeanour. It was impossible not to get behind Flicker and I think his mate could learn a thing or two from him. I don't want Hill to get sacked and fail at Rochdale, because Rochdale are a proper club like us, but I would like him to learn a bit of humility, as from what I saw last season he even started rubbing the Rochdale fans up the wrong way when results weren't going his way. I would like us to stuff them tomorrow though, because I couldn't bear to se his smug face if they beat us.
I actually like the blowk! I'll probably get shot down for this like. I didn't disagree with his departure. Saw what he was trying to do and respected that but it could probably have been handled a bit better. That been said I love a rebel so I'm probably way off the mark?!?
I liked Keith Hill. I liked the way that his team played. I liked the way that he talked. He called a spade a shovel and dared anyone to disagree. His record at Rochdale was outstanding in his first period of management, and it has been outstanding in his second period. He speaks now exactly as he spoke then, as far as I can tell, and the 'dale fans love him for it. The difference between the 'dale fans and the Barnsley fans is expectations. By the time his reign ended at Oakwell, he was beaten down by it all and needed a break, but the football until Christmas in his first season was the best that I had seen since Wilson. The key to it all was that he recognised what Jacob Butterfield was good at, and he built a system around that. Until then, a succession of Managers had seen only what Butterfield could not do, and failed to recognise what he could do. Of course, it all came tumbling down when the heart was ripped from his team by injury and transfers, and he failed to find the new talisman that he had hoped to find the following season, but for that first half season, he looked like he had the key to nirvana.
To be honest, I hadn't heard of him until we appointed him, so the first I saw of him was the press conference when he was announced and I raised an eyebrow then. He was unshaven, chewing gum and generally giving off a superior attitude, not endearing at all. I thought he came across as arrogant then and a bit unprofessional. Ultimately, this is exactly how I ended up judging him, despite trying my best to give him the benefit of the doubt. Certainly over the last few weeks he seemed to have lost the plot and was appearing to be taunting the crowd into chanting for his head and taunting the board into sacking him. I think we actually sacked him a few games too late and if Flicker hadn't put us on that terrific run it could have cost us the chance at staying up. I just couldn't warm to Hill and was glad to see the back of him, whereas with Flicker and Wilson I was sad to see them both go. One thing that irked me last night though was when PC asked us whether the fans would give LJ time, after we had asked if the board would give him time. We have spent pretty much all of the past 8 years at the wrong end of the table, losing more games than we won, sacking several managers along the way. And yet I don't recall any chanting at the ground for the heads of any of them. Yes, there were posts on here demanding the sacking of them all, but there was a post demanding the sacking of LJ after the Chesterfield game! A better yardstick is when the crowd get on the manager's back and chant that we want him sacked and that just doesn't seem to have happened for Wilson, Flicker, Hill or Robins (yes, I know his departure wasn't technically a sacking, but the club had a hand in removing him). I got the impression that the fans were more patient than the board (although, with hindsight, it can be argued that the time was right for removing all of them). I sincerely hope they give LJ a bit more time to get things right though, and I get the feeling that they will. I reckon we are probably more in danger of him doing well for us and getting interest from clubs higher up the food chain. Should that happen, bearing in mind our previous loyalty to our managers, it would be very difficult to convince LJ to show loyalty to us. The way we treated Ritchie, for example, was diaboloical. Refusing to let him speak to a bigger club who wanted him and then sacking him three weeks later, after that club had appointed someone.
It just didn't work out, maybe Rochdale is the only club he can manage? He runs the place from top to bottom and our chairman just takes a backseat. It works. He's arrogant and gobby but it just works - I doubt he'd be allowed so much freedom at many other clubs. Even our lack of support probably suits him - less people to wind up.
I thought he was a good manager but like you say lost the heart of his team and failed to replace it adequately.... Couldn't handle the pressure in the end and lost the plot!
The only people to blame for sacking managers are those in charge of such decisions. If he's asked that, last night, then I can't say I'm impressed. Because as you say, there were no chants at the games for the removal of any of our managers, not since Davey was here, a bloke who got far too much time, in my opinion. It does seem that PC and co read far too much into the spewings of a tiny minority of BBS/twitter/facebook users. Which I find strange. For example, the BBS polls on whether Wilson should be sacked were always in his favour, and I think the reaction upon his dismissal spoke volumes. PC and his board had their reasons for removing Danny. We've heard what these reasons are. And that's their call to make. But don't try and point the finger of blame at supporters. I felt like we'd killed Danny, not sacked him, when I learned of his departure. I just couldn't believe we'd got rid of the best manager we've ever had, a few months into a new strategy. It was a dark day. I think, 6 months down the line, Mr Cryne and co have done very bloody well to be talked about on here especially, in such glowing and affectionate terms, without much of a sign of things getting any better, or being any different. Don't get me wrong, I am 100% happy with Patrick and co running the club, wouldn't want that to change, and I really have taken to LJ in a big way. I am optimistic, but I was when Danny was manager too. Maybe I'm just easily pleased? But aye, I'd rather Mr Cryne and co saw the majority of us as he no doubt sees himself - passionate, opinionated, articulate, loyal and charitable reds supporters, who are also human and make the odd gaffe. Instead of focusing on the tiniest minority of our fanbase. Bit like Keith Hill actually, too much time/energy wasted on folk unworthy.
