Keith Hill gave his thoughts after seeing his side lose to Boro 3-1.

"I was proud of the players efforts, proud the way they reacted with some of the circumstances that led us lose the game tonight, but there's no question we lost to the better side.

"At the moment there is a lot of negativity around. We did conceed from a set piece, but I am not sure whether the second goal was off-side, but you can't take any credit away from Middlesbrough and they deserved to win.

"I am not going to critise my players because they put the effort in tonight. We have to make sure that we can maintain our confidence, because if confidence and belief goes then we will be struggling. It may help that our next two games are away from home because there is too much pressure coming from the stands which I feel is uncalled for and does not help the players, but supporters pay their money and earn the right to critise, but I think it should be done in a better flavour.

"Everyone needs to be realistic and that can be hard when you want to be successful. There needs to be an understanding where the Club is financially and there should be no pressure from anyone for the football club to spend money they haven't got and that is my job to try and rally the players and the supporters to understand where we are in the football pyramid in respect to finances and the ability to recruit, and until we can all understand that then we will all struggle.

"There are clubs spending a massive amount of money that they haven't got, but we are not going to go down that route. We need to balance our books and get the level of player that the supporters deserve on the pitch, but I am asking for a reality check. At the end of the day you could change the manager, but the circumstances at the Club will be the same.

"We want to try and over-achieve and I won't lambast my players if they put the effort in. Can we match other teams man for man, squad for squad? It's going to be difficult, but I'll persevere in my efforts to progress and develop this football club."

In other words, don't blame me, I've come in to try and achieve a miracle, this club can't compete at this level anymore and the only ones who have not accepted it yet are the fans.

Sounds like "We are preparing for League one".

Sorry, but that's what I think we are being prepared for.

that's about the sum of it yeah.

Thing is, if that is a fair translation of what he said, I think it is about right.

Don't worry Keith, it will be fine by November. By then, the fans will have accepted it, and only the hard core will still be coming. The pressure will be off as only a miracle will keep us up, and we will happily accept any snippet of fleeting joy, but sit in silence to witness the general demise. It'll be much easier for the players then. :(

I agree that you should not lambast the players if they are at least giving their all, but they are not. Some of these players we know they can do better, we have seen them do better, some are clearly not good enough, talent wise but can sometimes make up for that by putting in the work. This not happening at all.

I also seems that Mr Hill thinks we should not expect to beat any team in this league because we have no money! Strange eh! Ritchie got the sack for saying we should not expect to get back into the Premiership without a big money backer, Cryne did not like that, yet Hill seems to be preparing us for going down!

If confidence and belief go we will be struggling. Is he saying the players still have some and that we're not already struggling?

The team had given up with 25 minutes to go, it was as simple as that. I don't care if we don't have the money other teams have, we clearly don't, and fair enough the reality is we're going to get beaten by these superannuated teams, but simply giving up like we did tonight is unacceptable I'm afraid, go down with a fight or f*ck off.

Well Keith Hill certainly oesnt hold back. He just needs time and our backing and paitence but we need the effort on the pitch and the stupid defencive errors cutting out of the game.

I am not worried at going down i am worried at going down with out a fight thats what really does worry me. Barnsley fans wants a side that will give 200% regardless of result.

The pressure from the stands is uncalled for ??? Keith ,we haven't scored a goal yet,we don't look like scoring goals, the players are under achieving even by some of their own limited abilities.....thats the reality and its down to Keith Hill to sort it out not blab to the media every tired old cliched excuse

he is seriously having a giraffe if he stands by 90% of what he just said.. some of those words i find really hurtful, and disrespectful both to me as a 20+ year fan, and to my intelligence..

Defensively we look weak and un organised even at set pieces. Edwards and foster dont seem to have an understanding nor good comunication. Wiseman was constanlty been bollocked by steele for not closing down and not seeing the right passes.

We lack vision Jim obrien was open 8 or 9 times if they switched the play but hey just passed it back and forth and ultimetly wasted the opertunity to get at boro.

Fair enough - its very honest to admit this early in the season that as a club we've decided we cant afford to compete in this division and that we have to be realistic and accept that we can no longer play at the level at which we've spent 20 of the last 25 years. Given that sentiment, I wish the club the very best of British luck in selling their 30 quid matchday tickets.

Did you come over for the game tonight?

Going back to one of Dirk's analogies, I think I would have genuinely enjoyed sitting at home running a rusty saw blade over my bell end than sit through that ****.

You were right. We're going down. Factest of all facts.

    New manager or not

If I was in charge at Oakwell hed be sacked at 5 past 9 this morning. What an absolutely pathetic attitude hes got. The club cant compete, staying up is over acheiving, its everyone elses fault but his, taking pot shots at the fans. PATHETIC.

    Re: New manager or not

Hill doesn't want to criticise his players but its fine to criticise the fans who have been there long before and will be long after Hill!
