Keith died in the Royal Marsden Hospital in Sutton on the morning of Monday 21st August. He was aged 57 and had had bowel cancer for the past 18 months. The reasons for publishing this on this website are as follows. He was the friend who introduced me to Barnsley Football Club - his father got me tickets for the Everton Cup Tie in 1963, which was my first match at Oakwell. Keith's father, Jack, was a partner in a stock-broking firm in Barnsley and had an office in, I think, Queen Street. The family lived in Monk Bretton within sight of Oakwell. Jack was a season-ticket holder in the 1950s. Keith was at QEGS in Wakefield from 1960-1966, going on to study at London School of East European Studies from 1966-1969. His own interest in the Reds became passive, whereas my own continued to be fairly active. He retained a strong interest in Yorkshire cricket, which was his own better sport. He will be remembered by Ian Potter (former director) and there may be those who remember his father as a businessman in the town. He leaves a wife, Mary, and three girls, two of whom have left home and one has just done her A levels. There may be those who remember Keith, or his father. I was able to visit Keith in the Marsden on the weekend of 13th August and found him in good spirits. We shared many memories of Oakwell. The funeral will be in Sutton, Surrey, probably on 1st September.
RE: Keith Jessop thomasevans Message passed on to the Potters. Mrs Potter remembers him well says thanks for the inf.
RE: Thanks, Geriatric Just what I was hoping for. There might be one or two others also. I laughed with Keith about the time our Science v Artists soccer match had to be abandoned when a lorry ran over the match-ball. Keith remembered it - so should Ian - it was his ball!! Ask him if he got his money back. I did pay my dues.
