isn't 4 months up already?? BARNSLEY Football Club have today announced its intention to sign Scnuthorpe United star Richard Kell on a short-term contract. Despite suffering a broken leg in Scnuthorpe's clash with Bristol Rovers back in April, the Reds have given Richard four months to prove his fitness before being offered a long term contract at Oakwell. Richard started his professional career with Middlesbrough but failed to make a breakthrough amongst a multi-million pound squad at the Riverside. Four years ago he moved to Torquay United, initially on loan, and made 18 appearances for the Gulls before joining Scnuthorpe United in September 2001. The 25-year-old endured an injury hit start to his career at Glanford Park but bounced back in spectacular fashion to help lead the Iron's promotion charge from League Two last season. His campaign was ended early by a fractured leg but the influential star is expected to be fit before September 2005. A regular in the Iron side, Richard made 103 appearances at Glanford Park, netting nine goals, five of which came in his 47 games last. The Reds have moved quickly after receiving extensive and exhaustive medical reports from the player's surgeon to beat off a host of other clubs to sign the midfielder, initially on a short term deal, with a view to penning a two year deal later this year after proving his fitness.
