Had some stick of late, much of it justified, but he was excellent today, first half especially. Couple of mistakes, not least giving the ball away at the end but who didn't make mistakes at some point. In fact both full backs had very good games against tricky players
Excellent my arse. He's the main reason we can't keep a clean sheet and why he has to take every free-kick is beyond me. As he ever hit the target with one?
I'm going to watch the match back later and I will hold my hands up if I'm wrong, but I think you are letting your dislike of him cloud your judgement on today's performance.
Agreed Ark, but looking at the responses, once a scapegoat, always a scapegoat. Truth is, him and Perkins played well. Nobody had a "bad" game ...... if I had to criticise anything then the performances of CoG and Mellis wer'nt quite up to standard. We just lacked a cutting edge which IMHO will come with confidence. Which will grow the longer we remain unbeaten. If Peds had scored early second half last week, and Perkins early this week, then I think we would have buried both teams. It will come.
I agree, I thought he was very good in the first half and although he made some mistakes in the second half he was no worse than some of his team mates who can seemingly do no wrong.
Thought he played well apart from the last 10 minutes when we were under the cosh a bit and he started to panic. There are players who are allowed to make a mistake (McCourt, O'Grady) others who are not (Perkins, Wiseman, Kennedy). Always strikes me as strange, but Barnsley loves a scapegoat. Odd game we were the better team for most of it, yet ultimately we were lucky to end up with a point; the late header stands out.
He was awful again every time he gets ball in opposition half he gives it away, and when defending runs around like a headless chicken
I thought he had a better game than usual today, got plenty of good tackles in (is that more to do with playing against poorer players though?). Didn't have the greatest last 20mins but then nobody did.
More of a feckwit than someone who crys 'scapegoat' just because someone else thinks a player had a poor game? Nah.
He has been a scapegoat to some (along with Wiseman) and after a decent game today, he is still a scapegoat to some. Folk can't even give a reason why he was poor today, they just think that shouting "he's crap" will make them look big men in front of the clique. Get over it.
When will it come, these are the winnable games remember. COG looks off it as all we do is play the same ball to him. And Mellis is played out if position. I don't know how we can classify Perkins as having had a good game. Two great runs, then what?
I thought he was much better defensively, against a quick winger. For the first half hour he had Johnson in his back pocket. He also put a few good crosses in, the ball across the face of the goal in the first half was crying out to be tapped in.
He was terrible, half decent going forward until the final product. Shocking at the back, im unsure as to what he offers that RNL wouldn't. Then again, it can't be easy playing for two, as once again, Mellis looked lost on the wing.
