Kept getting something in my eye today - anyone else have that problem?

They just kept spontaneously watering for some reason, not sure why.

I thought that was just a terrific afternoon and it is a shame that there weren't 10,000 there to see it. Everything was as it should be with a lad with dancing feet on the wing wearing 25, a goal poacher doing nothing apart from score a goal wearing number 23 and two rocks at the back wearing 4 and 6. Anthony Kay showed why he still playing, for MK Dons, and the rest didn't look out of place either. That fat number ten still has the skill but not the running (never had though) and we were still lofting balls over 5ft tall Chris Shuker's head.

I thought Bobby looked the part in both halves that he played and I think our manager got it spot on taking him off when he did, knowing that he was coming back later. I half expected a comedy "let him score" bit to come near the end, but it wasn't necessary as he had already smashed one in from the spot.

Credit to Mansfield for giving us a decent game. They actually looked sharper than us early on but I'm not worried about that. It would be nice to see some width in our team, but hopefully we are going to address that before too long.

Couple of mentions of our new line up. Have we ever had such a big trio in the middle of defence? Mawson looks a good player and Jones can be in time. Let's see how they cope with L1 attackers.

Pearson looked like he did last season - busy but not overly effective, but nice to see him there. Rothwell is an excellent acquisition and the pair of them could do well together. Ball's finish was sublime and I would like another look at him. Wilkinson a bit leggy and likes to get stuck in which will get him plenty of bookings.

Overall a promising start to the home friendlies list. This isn't the finished article by a long way so let's all just have a bit of patience and see what develops between now and October. For one thing, slotting Hourihane and Winnall back in there will make a heck of a difference.
